hi all
I know I've talked this one to the bone and it absolutely sucks when I haven't taken delivery of my GTB....
I've been searching high and low but still haven't found a good answer....
Clarion has the EA 1251 and EA 1276 ..... IPOD adapters....
anyone in an "MY08" done this mod? or have taken a photo of the back of the McIntosh unit from the MY08 GTBs??
sorry guys....but I need to make absolutely sure before I go and commit to these bits....
argh...!!! (i have a feeling that it will be painful doing these mods especially when the car is under lease

)

hi D_Liberty,
I was talking to my local car installer at JB, hes a wiz with installing car audio, and he says the Macintosh system is a bitch, simply because well from a B4 stand point it had a shitty 6.5" sub and an amp hard wired in. It takes quite a lot and by that I mean you have to bridge around the wiring for it to work.
I am unsure on the new GenIV models and the audio system. I think I will settle for my GENIII and my audio setup(Proposed) for the time being. The Mach system is just far to crappy, and to much effort to worry about.
I do believe it would be easier to get a new headunit with the Ipod function. I think the new alpine is Ipod only and is instant indexing, searching and even holds a charge from the Ipod, so it wont go flat. Although, the wiring system will be rather tricky...
I will leave it up to you...

Watching with interest (mine is 3 weeks old) - I replaced the facia and AC controls in my 05 OB with a JDM facia, and it worked really well - much better sound just changing to a quality HU. AVOJDM show a dual ac controller facia with a double din upper panel, so that part is available.
The McI output doesnt impress, even with all the speakers and stuff.
I am told elsewhere here that the McI has special outputs to its amp that a normal HU cant connect to, and doesnt have any output on the normal socket. Dont even know if the car has a std Suby audio connector up there?
As to dismantling, in the 05 you lifted the rear of the gear lever boot plate out of clips, and slid that part with ashtray back; this exposed two screws that held the side trims on , and then the sides unclipped, exposing more screws holding the whole audio/ac control panel in place. The wiring to the hazard switch was short and the retaining clip fiddly to get at and release, but the rest is easy.

Interesting. I did a quick search on the EA 1276. Here's a review:
http://sjdean.blogspot.com/2008/01/clar ... eview.html
The implementation sounds as botched as the EA 1251. Pity. Have to wonder why Clarion can't make a device like this that simply allows you to use the iPod itself for selecting what to play.

Hey Andrew
Read the review and it seems like one of those programming limitations...
anyone in IT might understand....1 to 255....
32bit programming??...don't know...but might explain why....

Would be good to show the displays on the HU, wonder if it works with the 03-06.
Also wonder if they fixed the playback function, the 1251 keeps reseting which is annoying.

That is so anoying
I upgraded from a 3rd gen iPod to a new classic & the screen on the ipod now shows the current song playing, but alas you still don't get any better functionality out of it tho

Has anyone seen pictures of a Lib with a different head unit installed from the McI? Can't imagine what that would look like.. but I'd love to see it!
