I would be interested to know where you picked up this feeling from, from reading this post I dont see it, actually the opposite. Peiople being realistic about the car and why they bought it. I have driven many many good cars Australia, European and otherwist both onthe road and track and I suggest that many of my picks would not win BFYB.
In relation to VDC, it is a very good system and feature and I ask why Subaru dont have it on the GT Spec B (I beleive they do in other Countries) but having said that it is more needed on a big v8 powered rear wheel drive car then a car that has the added benefit of AWD.
At the end of the day it is just a button that needs to be turned off if you want to have some fun.
