ok...so everyone probably have seen japan version of the lib...

I've noticed that it has a starter button...does anyone know whether it is similar to the BMW version or the s2000 version...

could it be true keyless entry and start? or gimmicky key in to ACC and then press the start button...

the reason why i'm asking is that I'm thinking that this could be a good mod sometime in the future, depending on what it actually is.....

I think it's true keyless. Fairly sure the key is different.

Just came back from Japan and the cars have no key just a remote. You get in, make sure it's in P, put your foot on the brake and press the button to start the car. Don't know about manual versions though as they are few and far between in Japan.

I think it'd be fairly similar/same as the Aurion version, given Toyota's increasing influence in FHI. As Adrian says, it works of a proximity "key". I think the manual versions require the clutch to be depressed to start?

sounds like a decent mod to avoid theft??....and the cool factor hehehehe

do you reckon it would be possible to get the parts from Japan and mod it here??

or don't bother as its more trouble than its worth...

why does japan have all the toys??.....

We have the keyless and start button on our Toyota Aurion Presara. It's pretty handy when you're too busy to fish the keys out of your pocket. As long as the key is on your person, you simply touch the door handle, and the doors will unlock. Step inside, press the brake pedal, and push the start button.

Some proximity principle works for opening the boot. As long as the key is on you, you just press the button on the boot and it unlocks and opens. Real handy when your hands are full of shopping bags or groceries and you don't have a third hand to fish for the keys to press the trunk release.

There is a negative side to this though. The first day my mom got her Lexus GS300, she didn't know how to turn off the car (being a non-techie mom she didn't realise if you press the start button again it turns off). So she got frustrated and just went inside the house. Luckily I was returning home minutes later, and found the car was unlocked and the engine still running! Gez, it's a good thing no one else noticed and drove off with it. So yeah, if you get distracted and forget to turn off the engine, it will still keep running once you leave the area with the keys with you.

so i guess only japan has this and no where else so no point going through the trouble for this as it would be too difficult to sort out later on??...

why can't the just be a little more consistent with their models world wide...

Well, like the trunk release button on the key itself, I'm sure that little delay was built in to prevent accidental presses and openings. Although the button on the boot is in a quite obscure place, I could never see myself accidentally pressing it by mistake unless I giving the car a kick out of anger.

If you want a start button, just get a zerosports one or pivot.
