GT SpecB's now cop cars

Postby suby11 » Thu Jan 10, 2008 10:22 am

Don't know if this is happening in other states but here in Queensland on the Gold Coast I have seen 2 GT's being used as undercover police cars that have picked people up.

I know of a guy driving a poxy Commodore R8 that was being tempted by one of them to race on the highway and then they would have booked him for racing!

Anyway I won't be racing any with dark windows!

There is nothing illegal about racing up to the speed limit. ;)

In NSW there is no where in Legislation that street racing must have "speed" associated with it.

If police deem you to be "racing", even under the speed limit, you may cop your $500 ticket, or lose your car.

Seems to me that there's more and more cases of police flexing their big bulging muscles with nothing to back it up with...

I'm not having a go at you Mick, I know you're one of us ;) aren't you? :P but that's just ridiculous. What if you just wanted to accelerate faster, that's not deemed illegal or necessarily racing. I mean, it's to the speed limit, you can't be doing anything wrong there...

well, as long as you're not smoking your tyres, tearing off with a loud exhaust and doof doof going on you'll be ok ;)

I know of two guys in Parramatta recently that got charged with dangerous driving, and cars confiscated for 3 months, for "racing".

They were doing 60 in a 70 zone from a set of lights.

So that's just an excuse for an 'officer of the law' to flex his muscles, right?

Surely the two gentlemen drivers could dispute the ruling? as there is no evidence that they were doing anything illegal.

Not really, and I don't know the exact charge etc.

If they wanted to go not guilty, they could get a lawyer and fight it, but that would be up to them.

No doubt you have two or more police with evidence to prove that they were doing it illegally. You won't charge someone if you don't have enough evidence to win in court, so whatever the charge was they must have enough to take it to court if they want.

Not really,

If they didn't do it, they would have nothing to worry about.

If they did, just go guilty and cop the slap on the wrist.

Actually there was a guy on the wrx forums who recently (allegedly) got pulled over adn warned for taking a corner at 60km/hr in the rain, apparently it was "hoon" type behaviour.

It's a bit scary, I mean, theres no measureable means of telling how fast he took the corner (from the policemans perspective), so is it just tough luck??
