McIntosh stereo

Does anyone know why when you press the display on the McIntosh say when a CD is in and it comes up with No song Title and then after pressing again it says No artist title, why do they bother having that on the stereo when you cannot seem to get the text to come up?

Or is there any way of getting text up on the stereo?

Are you sure the CD that you put in has CD-TEXT? Not many audio CDs have.

If you burn a disc of your own, you can add CD-Text easily with Nero or a similar burning program, as Tangcla said though, not many commercial release CD's have it.

iTunes will add the song titles - even for an audio CD, if you identify the disc when you upload it, or you can enter the details yourself.

Thanks Greg, I have all the titles etc on my Ipod but I dont know how to get this on to the stereo when the Ipod is playing. All that comes up is Aux and nothing else.

You are using your iPod in aux-out mode (i.e. 3.5mm analog input), not digital. Hence you won't get any titles. You will need a dedicated iPod input (i.e. the connector the same as your USB cable or dock at home) to get titles.

But it's an idiotic device since once connected to your iPod you can't control your iPod and instead you need to create playlists on your iPod and then each playlist is treated by your headunit as a CD and you pick which one you want to play. So if you can arrange all your music into a few playlists then great this might work for you. I listen to music the old fashioned way in that I listen to albums and you can't really use this device for that which is a shame.

I've got one of those iPod adapters. there only good in that they charge your iPod & have better sound quality than any other method of listening to your iPod in your car . Other than that i think there crap

I have the EA1251 - it's stupid, yes, but it does what I need it to - have enough music so I don't have to change the stupid CD stacker! Less movement = less likelihood of it jamming. hehe

My Ipod do0es not seem to go loud in the stereo through the car.

Even with the Ipod on full loudness I have to have the stereo on 30 to really hear it and this is for songs downloaded from itunes and downloaded from CDs.

Anybody have any ideas why this would be. I have the Ipod connection cord from my ipod the same as the docking station into the aux point in the console.

Driving me nuts because hardly worth listening too as I cant get it loud like my Cds for instance!

Suby11, assuming you're using teh headphone out -> aux-in? I found this was very soft too, and you probably don't want to run the ipod at full volume as the signal does start to clip.. as I found out when I blew on of my Shure Ec2 headphones

Anyway, back on topic, for the car I bought a Belkin Autokit ipod charge/aux-out thing.. it has a line-level out for the ipod, and also a trim for this so you can match the level to the input of the mcintosh. I've got it set just enough so it's quite loud from 22-28, but most of the time I listen to it around 20ish. you can increase the trim, but it does start to clip again. Overall I find the aux input stage on the mac very average... which is probably the issue.

I'm using the Harmon Kardon Drive + Play which connect directly into the Alpine sound processor.

Sound is fantastic. I have the controller mounted next to driver seat and the screen on the dash so no need to fiddle around with the Ipod when driving. I'm unable to post any pics at the moment.

To say the McIntosh is average is overstating it a bit. Tone control is a joke, being dvd aware is common now, and the random play only within a disc is really poor - a pioneer changer I had 10 years ago had random over the whole 10disc set available. Even disc changing is very audible.
To coin a phrase. it has the same "delusions of adequacy" of some people I have worked with. I have been told the Mc HU outputs are so unusual you cant even adapt a normal HU to connect to the speakers??? Even the sound seems flat compared to the JVC DV6105 I had in the outback.

The H-K thing looks interesting, but you still need to add an ipod to the back end. Where do they come from in Oz?

Ipod uses MP3s and AAC files (or something like that). They are not CD quality. You could try increasing the volume under get info -> Options and volume adjustment (on Itunes). All my files are at 80% because more than that they begin to sound like a $20 stereo on full Bass and treble if I play them through the McIntosh.

kbps also matters, MP3 are genrally 128 kbps (fair quality), some could be anything up to 192 kbps (good quality, near cd quality). Try to make you ripping standard and stick to it, otherwise, one song would be loud another quite or anywhere in between.
