Front Mount Intercoolers

Postby SkoobyGT » Thu Nov 01, 2007 10:53 pm

Hey guys, I would like to get a front mount IC but can't afford 1k plus for a kit.

I know, I know ebay.... but I saw this on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... TQ:AU:1123

I was thinking if I get that, it would fit ok into the bumper with minimal trimming. I dont know much about bar and plate, tube and fin and what the difference is if someone cares to enlighten me?

I could then get the piping fromt he same guy, about $200 or so and put it all together.

Overall Size 690"X150"X65mm"
Core Size 530"x150"x65mm"
65mm" Inlet & Outlet
65mm" Core
This is Bar & Plate Intercooler
not the Cheap Tube & Fin One

Is the outlets big enough or do I need bigger?

For the price of about $400 is it worth it, much difference?

I have never had a FMIC before, and would like to know what people reccomend.

Cheers buys

hmmm i thought about going down that path when i was getting my fmic.... at the end of the day it was going to be too much hassle. you gotta get the brakets and piping made up to fit which i'm pretty sure is a PITA. I had to make brakets to lower my fmic and gees that wasn't fun.

A lot of the cheaper cores are quite useless. The top of the core doesn't actually get an intake charge, so it causes pressure drop and stagnant hot air.

don't do it unless you want serious snail lag problems or you are prepared to change snails. If you want to improve performance then get a bigger TMIC like AVO for instance.

So how good are TMIC replacement options like the Hyperflow units?

i wouldn't call it serious lag. there is a slight lag, but when boost kicks in it kicks in way harder than the tmic. having such a small turbo you wont even notice the lag most of the time. mike i suggest you talk to phat for some recommendations on going bigger tmic or fmic, as I recall having the same conversation with phat a while ago. i've gone from hyperflow tmic to greddy fmic and to tell you the truth fmic is the better option.

yeah i'd suggest going for the quality guys. quality wise, the greddy fmic is far superior than the hyperflow. if you wanna go tmic i'd go the HKS.

Yeah I would probably go the Greddy or HKS FMIC when I was ready.

Plans have changed, and am looking at getting some 19" wheels. I don't have the money, but they will be my next decent purchase I think.
