not happy

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

not happy

Postby SUM12C » Sat Sep 08, 2007 3:03 pm

Well driving along the motorway on Thursday I managed to hit a bit of ply wood 2x3foot doing about 110km/hr. (I was behind a 4wd that picked it up and it stood vertical, I had no choices but to hit it…not happy).
It managed to destroy my number plate cover and bonnet protector/shield (the plastic weather strip type thing), Subaru badge on the newly installed mesh grill and scratch/dent the bonnet and bumper (bumper was hanging off).
The bumper is basically held on by plastic clips so a lot of them broke (lucky I’m thinking if it was screwed on and more ridged the bumper could have been worse off)
I’m going to need to get the front of the bonnet resprayed and fixed (there are a few little dents, scratches and some big chips going back to bare metal), a nice crease in front of the scoop removed if possible and bumper resprayed (the paint work has cracked).
Anyway when I got home I took off the front bumper and took some pics (with my phone, some are good some are bad) so if anyone wants pics of what the car looks like without the front bumper, what the back of the bumper looks like, bottom dust cover or how to take off the bumper give me a yell. (also have a couple of pics of the installed sway bars and end links)

Dude.. I know what that's like - had it happen to one of my older cars, a bit of wood from a pallet came off a truck and dented the whole bumper on the corner.. it really does do some damage..

Possible to claim insurance against that dude? xD

Ouch!! Arghh that has gotta be frustating to say the least....

Sorry to hear that mate, I would be pretty unhappy if it happened to me.

I'll PM you about the pics, cause I am wanting to take the front bar off soon to do some mods... kinda need to know where all the screws are.

The result no bumper…

Well fist step is jacking up the car (don’t work under a car just supported by jacks, use stands)

Next step under the car and remove the engine dust cover there are two screws in the front, one screw in the rear, (notice near the rear screw the cover has two raised sections that clip to the car), there are two slide over clips at the back of the cover, and two push in pull out clips holding the cover in place inside the wheel arches (its easier to get to these when not under the car and the wheels are turned either direction)

Next remove the grill (there are two push in pull out clips either side, four clips that clip into the bar running in front of the radiator (there is a little plastic raised bit you need to push down on) then the fun clips to get too that are at the bottom of the grill surround and either side (they clip over and under the holes in the top of the bumper, you can get your hand in there and just separate them and pull the grill forward)

Then to keep the bumper in place I just put a screw driver in one of the clip holes next to the lights to hold the bumper in place.
Image
Next under the car again remove the push in pull out clips for the bumper they are located around the bottom of the bumper (I think there was about seven of them and two screw clips (you may need to also remove the sti lip if installed and the two rubber guard things, so they don’t get damaged and are not in the way).

Next the internal plastic wheel arch needs to be moved to get to a push in pull out clip for the bumper and the fog light wiring so under the car and remove the screw clip holding it in place (located near the tow bracket)
After undoing the clips the plastic section will move a bit so you can stick your hand up and undo the fog light wiring, may be a bit stuck so be careful)

Get out from under the car and go to the front wheel arch and pull out the edge lip (notice the little section missing in the wheel arch where the bumper meets the fender) just here is a push in pull out clip here holding the bumper in place that you need to remove (one on either side)
Image
Image
Now pull at the bumper a little just to get it unclipped from the near the lights (remember to have screw drivers or something in the clip holes near the lights to hold the bumper in place) and then remove the screw drivers and lift off the bumper)

Go after the RTA. You pay rego for a reason!

I know 2 people down here in Melbourne that similar things happened to and they went to VicRoads (our RTA) and they sorted it out. Took a bit of pushing but it got the required result.

Not sure about things left on the road by other motorist, to be a successful claim. But I am contemplating whether or not to send them a bill for my rim after driving over the pothole last night that was a size of a basketball.
