Chipped windscreen and bonnet

Hi Guys (and Gals),

With only 2500k's on the clock I heard the dreaded crack a week ago - since the car was reaaaallly dirty, didn't notice much.
Well, spent yesterday cleaning the car and found a nasty chip on the bonnet (about 1cm long) and a nice corresponding round chip on the windscreen.

My question is, has anyone had experience getting glass chips repaired, and if so, your recommendations or negatives.

I figure I just get some touch up paint for the bonnet, so that's not tooo much of an issue, but I'd like to get the glass fixed before it gets worse (and it is on the drivers side in the middle )

ouch, that sucks!

Look at getting an insurance policy which covers free windscreen replacement, and claim it in a months' time.

I remember getting a big windscreen chip on previous car, I went to have it checked out and they said don't bother. It kinda depends on exactly where it is, if it is in the line of vision for the driver, also how big it is. Depending on the way it was chipped, it left a long period of time it would slowly grow... becoming like a hairline crack.

They use this really expensive glass filler thingy and fill it up if it is doable.

Hope this helps, but yeah get it checked in the first instance.

apparently if the crack can be covered with a $1 coin it can be repaired.

I had a chip repaired for about 60 bucks and its fine - you cant see where the chip was.

Don't change the screen for a chip.

Thanks for this guys - yeah, the chip on the glass isn't big enough to warrant a windscreen replacement, but I would like to get it fixed.

Instant windscreens quoted about 68 bucks with the rest (o'briens, australian windscreens) being about 100 in Canberra. I'm assuming most of these larger places would use the same processes...?
