MY07 (ex BL5 owners only) thoughts on car versus old one

Nearly everything is in here to start with.

MY07 (ex BL5 owners only) thoughts on car versus old one

Postby bonski » Thu Aug 02, 2007 8:47 am

This thread is specifically for the people who have upgraded from BL5 GT to MY07 GT (GTSti as well)

Id like to hear your thoughts on the new one especially compared to the old one.

the reason for this thread as now a few of you had have the benefit of a few months (or longer) of ownership of the new car and I have a BL5 and am contemplating the update to a MY08.

Thoughts appreciated but again not wanting to hear from people who dont own the new one.

Thanks
Ben

Still pretty much what i said as below:

1) Cost cutting on this model is very obvious, things i noticed compared to my 05 GT - no light in the cubby, some of the under body air-deflectors have been left out, etc.

2) new interior plastics are flimsy - ashtray, trim around the gear stick, etc

3) leather is of cheaper quality - advice to other owners : take care of this leather interior as this is a harder gain of leather and will start to crack in a few years if not looked after

4) buttons on the McIntosh feel cheap compared to the 05, will be interesting to see what it looks like once i pull it out.

Now for the good bits :)

2.5 motor is really nice - and best of all I HAVE MY BOXER BURBLE BACK :D Can't wait to put the exhaust on it!

6sp box is gracefully done, i think its just perfect for the car. Not as notchy or as short as in the STI WRX.

Don't know if they have done any changes to the suspension apart from the Bils shocks but this car seems to handle better than the 05.

Only things to add:
I conditioned the leather with Gliptone and it looks and feels a lot better.

Hate the rear bumper vent things

SI drive is a waste of time imo.

Like the engine warm up indicator/light thing - nice feature for me.

Over all, for me it was an improvement from my 05.

Bye,
Mo
