Debated many times over in this forum and others. To each their own. Good to see the media asking the hard questions too rather than their eyes glazing over at the sight of the STi badging.

sure will.. it will be a while

Price up the wheels and the brembos and its easy to see that its worth the extra coin

BUT

its still alot of money for a liberty.

If you want that sort of thing it is absolutely worth the money.

I know, I got my GT two months prior to the announcement of the GT STi and was very disappointed so have set out to build my own.

I'll be almost finished in about two weeks and will be able to supply exact costings but here is a rough estimate.

STi wheels = $2600 (-$1000 selling old ones = $1600-)
Short shift = $400 (can't recall exactly)
Brembos (F&R) = $4000- (should have been $5K)
Lip = $650-
ECU (bit hard here, Ecutek gives 220kW & 400Nm compared to STi 194kW & 350nM) = $1750-
STi pink springs = $400-

Still to come later on will be the lateral links ($?) and strut brace.

I won't worry about mufflers and still won't have red stitching

If you add this up you can see the value in the GT STi.

BUT I have got a white one with charcoal wheels which is important to me.

Exactly. Take the brakes for instance. $4k-5k (the price someone suggested above) will buy you a better package than the brembos. Sure it won't have the bling factor of the brembo's (golden calipers) but you can do better for the money. At Subaru's prices you can make it look like good value but it really isn't.

I got Rays Wheels in my study as well.

I'm gonna be updating my 05 probably next year and all the bits will fit on the new model.

Id rather have my liberty different from a factory optioned one.

That being said I do see the merit in having all your bits factory fitted and a nice factory warranty to go along with it.

Each to their own - I have one and love it and well worth the extra cash and performs well out of the box.

No matter how many STI parts you add to a GT its still not an STI and wont have the resale on the limited edition but it may be better

I did think it was worth the money ($10K) but when I really looked it's substantially more. STI Wagon on road is around $71500 yet my GTB wagon on road cost $55,500 so it's actually a $16k difference.

Not to down-grade your car because I think they are excellent value and a Good Thing but they're not an STi in the true sense.

I had an '04 STi (WRX) prior to the GT and they were completely different to the base car with changes to the following components;

Block, pistons, intake manifold, I/C + water spray etc..
Clutch
G/box
Diff (180 vs 160)
Struts
Brakes
Wheels
Seats (front + material used)
Instruments
Pedals

Whereas the GT tuned by STi has nice bolt on bits.

I acknowledge mine will never be one of the 300 but I stand by using your cars as inspiration rather than a hotchpotch of aftermarket bits.

In the end they're all Libertys and they're all good.

Liberty by Sti is an awesome car but its not a Sti per say.
