Good news Kurt that you got the car back but as others have said keep on their backs with any issues you have. The squeaky wheel gets the grease! :wink:

You'd think subaru oz would fork out for air express instead of $50 a day for a hire car.

Say what?
The engine number is on the block. If they have in fact done a "short engine change", then you DO have a new engine number, and you must advise the car registration authority, with a letter from Subaru saying that they did the change.

Yeah Rick is right.. I had a new short engine replaced by Subaru and I had to change my Rego with the RTA.

A letter from Subaru was required to be faxed through to the RTA to change their records too.
