I thought I'd like them, but still prefer a good manual gearbox.

i agree though with all the above.. the 6MT is a killer gearbox even better with a short shift kit..

6 speed DSG on my wifes new GT Sport TSI is awesome and works really well with 1.4 ltr petrol supercharged / turbocharged engine!!

The looks just dont do it for me though so no Paasat for me thanks

Yes, the current Audi grille leaves me repulsed badly. previou models were ok. There was a fabulous twin turbo v6 petrol Allroad released here 99 or 2000 (only 200) with a 6mt that many raved about, but new they were close to $100k.
As some say, a few too many unknowns with the R36 so far, apart from price...

Funny you say that Arith.... I recently purchased a car from a guy who is a mechanic for VW. He mentioned he'd never buy a VW because they're generally becoming very complex and expensive to repair.... and they're in for repairs a lot!!

But I gotta say... an R32 Passat gets my blood boiling!

Maybe I'd better earn some more money to pay for the repair bills!

I looked at the websites overseas at these before I bought the TBSTI, as they were always going to get here at some stage.

However for me the DSG is less attractive than a manual, plus I still prefer turbos, the Interior is ordinary to look at. Its god awful expensive to service. (like a lot of euro's - rotors are replaced when pads are and they are $$$, plus the DSG is maintenance hungry)

Oh and it is a VW - bit like a Volvo, sometimes they make somthing nice, but it'll still depreciate and be a bitch to get support/aftermarket hot ups etc etc

much to my chagrin, i am able to confirm these comments.
we bought a 1 yr old S40 t4 for just under $50gorilla's and when we went to trade it in less than 3yrs later we were offered prices between $13k & $18 and a half .

i took one for a strap yesterday down the goldy, and shit, must say im impressed... purely with the amount of shit there is inside....

handles like a go kart with the comfort of a cushion..

the dsg gearbox, has even made me somewhat ponderous to submissive now to anything with two pedals..

the seats in it are some of the best ive sat in, with buckets in the front and back. the boot is huge in the sedan and all the seats fold down all the way..

seat warmers front and back, (which i still find amsuing) even to that bloody brolly in the door... ok so im new to the whole european thing.

automatic everything and i do mean everything, and i was impressed with things like the seating position, looking at things like me being able to fit in it, at 6"4 i know im no giant, however there are still plenty of cars that require a strategic method to get into.

either way, took it for a blat, cornered it, nailed it off the lights and through corners and it took it.. loved it.. encouraged it...

ive never heard of the whole dsg thing, and didnt even know it existed, but heres me thinking things like the chrysler were smart switching off 4 cyl on the highway, thing thing transfers power to favour the fronts, to minimise wear on the rears and drive train. where as if your towing, opposite..

aside from my rambling, and lack of abilty to write a car review. this thing impressed me no end and for a vehicle ive never heard much about, certainly got me considering my options... value for money... all over it like a muffin top on a mini skirt
