new engine. UPDATED

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

See if they'll let you take a look inside.
My dealer gave me open access to come and have a look while my engine was being swapped under warranty. Have a look here: http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?t=694

Wow Ric, great thread, I had the same situation (short engine being replaced) I should have also asked to take photo's but in the end, I had to get the Engine Number changed at the RTA, so I am pretty certain they did the job properly.

I approached them in this way. "I have always serviced my car at your dealership, all my Subaru's have come through this dealership and all the servicing also"

I got Subaru Australia invovled and they ended up paying for all parts... the cost of the short engine is not cheap and if they can handle that part of the transaction then you can breath abit better AND mine was out of warranty by about 1-2 months..

great news for kurt today...

finally got onto someone at the dealership that could help me. They said to me that im up for a short engine, not 100% clear on what that means, but means new anyway. They are expecting it in next tuesday, and be in and ready to go on friday.. I spoke to the guy at the dealership this afternoon, and he said it is more likely to get here next friday if anything.. so not to get my hopes too up.

when i origonally spoke to the girls at the counter, they said that i couldnt get a loan car, cause they were all booked out. fair call i assumed. so i rang subaru australia, and spoke to one of the girls there, that tells me that because my repairs are a warranty issue, yes a warrenty issue, that i am entitled to a car.

The reason they didnt have any at the time, is cause my assessment still hadnt been done, and they didnt know what was wrong with it..

Overall, pretty happy with how they have dealt with it. certainly been my persistence in calling them that has got me to where i am now.

So i have an outback in the driveway now to last me till mine is ready to go..

I was asked no questions, i had no phonecalls, nothing in relation to the matter, they have gone off what i have already told them when i dropped the car off, and they have gone off that.. and of course what they have seen under the bonnet...

ol mate said to me that subaru dont much around with engines, and they fix them all at once, not just in bits.

He said to that me that he didnt have the results of what actually happend to the car, like if there were any oil leaks found, blown seal, piston rings, everything else that was suggested to me, but i will be sure to keep you all up to date when i find out.

um, i think thats everything.. ha ha rambled on enough

cheers

Hi Kurt,

I have followed this post hoping you would have a good outcome.

Excellent news!
I sure everyone in here including me would like to know what caused the engine to fail. Good if you could find out.
Great news

That's exactly what I got.
It means you get a new block with the crank and pistons already installed, but they transfer the heads, oil pump, water pump, alternator etc. across from your old engine.

I don't know whether you want the pump, but I'm guessing you'll be having multiple oil pressure gauges mounted all over the car so that no matter what direction your vision takes, you can still monitor the oil pressure. :-)

Hey trendetters, got an update for you all..

picked the car up yesterday afternoon, (Friday) was actually ready and driving on Thursday, but they had issues with the airbag light tht i had told them about months ago, that they chose to ignore..

basically this is what my paperwork says

" OP1: VEHICLE USED 2 LITRES OF OIL IN THE LAST WEEK

ENGINE SEIZED AS VERY LOW ON OIL, (ONE LITRE) MAIN AND CONNECTING RAIL BEARINGS REMOVED ENGINE AND DISMANTLED.
VISUALLY INSPECTED CYLINDER HEAD, ALL OK. REPLACED SHORT MOTOR AS DAMAGE TO MAIN AND CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS .
REFIT ENGINE TO VEHICLE, ADDED ENGINE OIL AND COOLANT, THEN RUN ENGINE COOLANT THROUGH TO REMOVED AIR FLOW FROM SYSTEM AND TEST DROVE. ALL OK, ALL WORK DONE BY XXXXXXXXX"

OP 2: AIR BAG LIGHT COMING ON....

"CLEARED CODES, B0221 CAN-HS ECM NO REVEIVE DATA ROADTEST. LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON. NO CODES. IF LIGHT RETURNS IT COULD POSSIBLE BE A MODULE FAULT. ( INTERMITTENT)"

PARTS:

SHORT BLOCK ENG AY LIB2.5L
GSKT AND SEAL SET ENGINE
BELT TIMING
ELEM CP-OIL FLTR
5 LTR ENGINE COOLANT

Ok so alot of that makes no sence to me... HOWEVER.. i know i have spoken with a few of you about what they are going to do, re: resettting the clock, future services ect ect.. picked the car up, and thats basically all i did.. it still has the same amount of k's on the clock, it still has the same sticker on the window which makes me now over due for a service, and there is nothing annotated in my log book.

Spotted last night, that the #$@#$$##@@$$## air bag light came on again... Took in back into them this morning, which is when i got the paperwork i just quoted. The girl behind the counter, who has been very helpful to me from the start  told me that the WONT reset the clock, because apparently in a service, most of the work is done on the top of the engine, nothing to do with what i had replaced.. She told me to bring it back in on monday to get a tech to look at the airbag light again, and that they will probably have to replace that too.. of course under warrenty she assured me :x

i pointed out to her, that other than the fact that i have my car back, and turning the key actually does something, i have no idea whats been done..

apprently the engine number doesnt change, so no need to update anything with QT or insurance or anything, and that all i have to do, is take it in after 1000kms, just for a "check up"

all in all, not really happy. engine bay looks like someone has wiped grease all over the place, just to ad to the effect. ive some how accumulated a comb!! yes a comb...

and as far as a business goes, i know a few of you have said they are not the best. am im leaning toward agreeing.. the only positive point, i can get out of the whole process is that they returned my calls... this is irrelevent to the fact that i chased everything up, i went in and seen them and hurried them up and got progress updates.. the car was a week longer than i was origionally told, there was only one person in the reception area that knew what was going on.. turns out he is the one that gave me the wrong information anyway!

at the end of the day, i have it back.. it works.. taking it easy, checking the oil, and listening twice as hard for any noises...

:)

Finally got your car back kurt, good stuff.

Keep hounding them bout those other little probs though mate, even the greasy engine bay, they might hate you after it but it'll get the job done properly.

Hope you dont come across any other problems with the lib.
Cheers,

Rosso.
