it is like that in my MY05 but they actually changed it in the MY07. the reason i think is because pulling the earlier models gear stick right without going up or down is the way to get sports mode whereas the new model has the SI drive for that function. having said that my 05 is a basic 2L 4speed, so the 2.5L, 3.0L or GT may be different?
the 4 speed is actually quite agressive in sports mode, ie: it will do 90 in second at about 5700 rpm but if you lift off it will not change up a gear until you put your foot back down quite gently. this is epecially useful on long corners if you want to get a little oversteer. my one gripe is that the arse drops out of the revs in the change from 1st to 2nd down to about 3100 at about 42k/h, not real useful for a NA 2.0L.
