e-Tag Placement

Postby aussiematt » Tue Jun 12, 2007 12:12 pm

Hi Guys,

Might sound silly - but having just purchased my new MY07 GT-B I went to stick my (Melbourne) e-Tag on and found I couldn't quite decide the right place for it. Just wanted to see where others have stuck it.

I though just to the left of the mirror but there is that sort of criss-cross/spotty black masking stuff (not sure if it's metallic) so wasn't entirely sure it would work there?

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Matt.

actually, i was told that they work from a glovebox or something? and that bikers can keep them in a pocket..

but im not sure, i thought it was like.. infrared and had to scan it or something..

i wouldnt know, mine has always been behind the revision mirror..

I do a fair amount of driving on CityLink (Melbourne Tollway) and I leave mine in the centre dash. It's been working for me in there for a few years now.

I don't keep much else in there. Sometimes my PDA or phone but it still works.

I like not having it on my windscreen as well. Maybe it could be a Liberty (I used it in my old Outback too) revolution.

ive been photographed about 6 times cos my etag was dead (no fines, because they match the plate and car to my account and just deduct it like that).. lol.. still waiting for a new one to be sent to me, been over a week now lol..

havent mounted it in the subi yet, i want to keep it in the glovebox.. just tidier!

so im going to do experiments lol.. different placement in the car to see if it keeps working! LOL..

yeah i have the same one for up here.. i know it covers all toll roads in aus, and i stuck mine behind the mirror.. i cant see it, and the scanner has had no trouble picking it up..

and i know that a couple of times when i have run out of money on it and forgotten to recharge it, ive put it in the glove box, and in the centre console, and the scanner still picks it up when im at the booth

I placed mine just above the rearview in "that sort of criss-cross/spotty black masking stuff" and it works perfect everytime. I use the same tag in my leather jacket pocket when I am riding bike and still works fine.

It looks pretty crappy looking at the car if it's stuck behinf the mirror though.

It's not infra-red, it is just a low power radio link, so you need to ensure there is no metal above it.
I put mine behind the passenger sunvisor, so I can't see it if the visor is down. I don't like it close to the mirror.

On screen is ugly as hell.
Just chuck it wherever, newer etag gates are fairly strong and should pick it up, old ones don't. Take a pic smile/finger, its linked to ur plates anyway, make the toll guys look at liberties non stop, maybe we'll get more forum members.

When I first got the liberty I didn’t have any sticky to put the etag up so I tried the centre dash, glove box, centre console and it didn’t work from any of those places (only tried it on the M7). It now resides behind the rear view attached to "that sort of criss-cross/spotty black masking stuff" and works fine

Cheers guys,

Lots of good suggestions - will take another look over the weekend - but probably leave it in the centre console for now. Pity you can't paint it a nice matching colour ;)

Yeah, but there is an additional fee if you travel through without the eTag going off, some sort of stupid admin fee to check your plates and ensure you have an account

Quote off CityLink site:
"If a vehicle registered to a CityLink account uses CityLink without an e-TAG an additional fee will be charged for each trip."

Mine stays in the centre dash also
