Paint Protection

Paint Protection

Postby davo00 » Sat Jan 03, 2009 1:39 pm

My dealer has offered me all the usual add on's for my new car.
The only one I'm really considering is paint protection but they are trying to "steal" $750 from me for it

What's everybody's view on paint protection on a new car.

Is it necessary to get it?
Are the after-market guys just as good as the "dealer" jobs?
How much should I pay?

Any recommendations welcome

That along with the fabric protection and rust protection is their biggest money maker. Don't do it.

As long as you maintain your car it should be okay. Otherwise you can get a detailer to apply protect at half if not a quarter of the price.

bulllshit.....the $750 your paying is for someone to spend 10 minutes sparying your car with a bottle of gods knows what, that costs $15....... heard this from a friend that works at peter warren.

Thats how they do it, get more money they entice you with Paint/Rust/Fabric protection which you can do yourself or a friend if you know one who is in that line of work

Waste of money mate.

Only paint protection (That I've heard is the goods) is ming treatment. A friend has it on his HSV & it's appears to work very well.

Otherwise, just make sure you wash your car on a semi regular basis & a polish every so often & I'm sure you'll be fine.

If you're not the polishing kind of guy, talk to Dan from DMS, he's done a few member's cars & he does a good job :D

Just a chance for dealers to make some extra cash; don't bother.

I got paint protection on mine and quite happy with it, I also got the Rust Protection and Interior Protection but I negotiated my deal and got the whole package free.

Yeah they tried to get me with that (even though my car was second hand). Would only suggest it if you never go out and wash/polish/wax your car but otherwise not worth it.

Thanks guys. I called and cancelled today.
Not that they were very happy about it. I couldn't help but get the feeling they make more on these "protection" extras than what they do on the car itself.
