Ebay BOV's

Hi Guys,

I've been looking on ebay for some bov's and other possible mods for my GT. Obiously very hard to find anything half decent. But ive noticed alot of BOV's that are the same "style" as the HKS and the GFB. Can I trust them?

I would love your opinions on this.

BOV theory is simple - Essentially it's to seal when the throttle is open, open when the throttle is closed. I guess the issue is whether the eBay BOVs are going to be able to do the simple job properly.

Realistically, anyone who is good with CNC machinery can whip something up quite easily. Honestly, I think it'll be fine, for what it does, remember you're paying a lot for the brand name, and the R&D for the product. It's just that the eBay ones are taking advantage of someone else's R&D and making a product which is the same, or significantly similar to, their name-brand counterparts.

Just because something is a HKS SSQV "style", does not mean you are the same product.

If you're looking for a BOV at a reasonable price, the GFB GT Hybrid is a good bolt on solution & is ajustable (Ask Arith as he currently runs one). Otherwise, if you want the best (IMO) look no further then the HKS SSQV.

I had one for a month, then sold it - six months later I bought another one cos I missed the noise, then got over it and sold it a week later.

Chris, try to ride or listen to someone's Subaru that has the pod filter intake. I think it might produce the sound you're after (and then some). Plus you get a bit of boost from the intake as well. I've got my BOV on full plum-back because the intake produces more noise than I need.

On cars running an AFM (ie most EFI cars) an atmo-venting BOV will throw out the mixtures, resulting in an over-rich mix on backoff and a little bit of hesitation when you put the throttle back down, and they're also an easy defect if you ever get pulled over and checked (as mentioned, they affect emissions).

I'm also not a fan of the sound, a bit of BOV noise is fine but it doesn't have to be a 3000dB blast. If the stock BOV is leaking at higher boost (unlikely unless you're running a fair bit more than stock boost) then an aftermarket plumb-back is the go, and as Arith mentions, if you want the noise, get a pod filter. Put it in a sealed box with a cold-air feed and the police will most likely leave you alone

You don't need a sealed box for legality reasons. EPA states that if your car is EFI and the filter is a dry element filter, it doesn't need an enclosure.

The problem is that, in Qld at least, the police like to defect them anyway, and it's a hassle to get it cleared. Putting it in the box makes it far less likely to be picked on.
