So what do I get next?

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

So what do I get next?

Postby Why » Mon Nov 27, 2006 7:33 am

Just wondering what to get next with a budget of say $80k

My short list would be. Lancer Evolution 9, MY08 WRX STi, Liberty GT Spec B Wagon with AVO modifications (Exhaust Piggy back ECU and Intercooler), Golf VR32 or Commodore SS with AVO twin turbo kit. I am a little worried about the build quality and resale of the Commodore.

Any thoughts? (Leaning towards the Lancer and Impreza as their better track cars)

If you really want to put a smile on your face for under $45000 new and around $30000 second hand Toyota powered you could have one of these http://www.prbaustralia.com.au/ 0-100 in under 4 seconds!!!!

I built mine form kit and with Honda s2000 running gear no Rex or Magna two door could come any were near it   .
Resale is VERY good if built right.

Evo would probably be my pick... Not sure re the new Commondore, Falcon Typhoon would probably be my pick of the big aussies... A little work and she'll be punching out the numbers.

I think that and the Commodore are too big given your track needs, I'd be looking at the STi or Evo. Volks is a great car, but a little softer edged and less tuneable (cheaply) than the 2 japs.

WRX, i'd say but wait and see what happens with the 08. Quite a few pple on other forums seem to be having 'trouble' with modded evo in terms of things breaking...

I came out of a WK Statesman (the third Holden in a row) and got tied of the resale of under 50% after three years.

I have driven lots of cars Australia and European with many over 200K in price and the Liberty Spec B while not perfect offers one of the best value for money packages (with luxury) available on the market. I was looking at an Audi prior to getting the Subaru and actually drove every model up to and including the W12 at a drive day at Eastern Creek and the closest Audi offering in my opinion was double the price of the Subaru.

Give me a liitle more power and I will be happy. :D

I reakon you should buy either the wrx sti or the evo if you want seriously fast car around the track, but if you want a dyno queen or a drag pig you could always buy an xr6 turbo, i know a guy who is making 300 kw at the rears for less than 4 grand, Awsome bang for buck just not sure how it would hold up on the twisties.

only problem with buying an STI or EVO is that every P plater and car hoon will want to drag you at the traffic lights. the other problem is that there are many people waiting to steal them or in worst case car jack them, not a good idea if you have three kids. the STI and EVO may be cool but they are still targets of car thieves and unwanted attention. i would wait and get a MY08 lib, hopefully in STI guise and use the remainder of your budget on getting more performance and tyres/wheels etc for track days. will be alot more comfortable for the kids too.

Track car - evo..... but after options that will equal a bit over 70k, add a few mods should go ok.

If you are looking for a track car you have to go for either the Wrx Sti or EVO and I believe as a every day driver the STI is the better car and easier to live with.

Given you have the family aspect to think of maybe something different is in order. The other car I considered was the F6 Typhoon.
