Hi all

I am going to Super Cheap Auto or Auto One tomorrow to spend a bit of money on car care products. I want to spoil my lib this weekend hehee as it just got a new battery and serviced.

Can you please give advice on what to look for washing my car? Any items to buy, brands and how it works, etc....as I want to make sure that when I wash the car, I don't leave any swirl marks or scratch the black paint.

Brian, there are lot of products you can choose from, however like some of us, we started at Super Cheap Auto and now don't use those initial products purchased.

How are much are you looking at spending? A wash, a wax, a tyre shine and a good chamois? If you are looking at something simple... .then probably go NXT Gen products.

I've used ALOT of stuff from them and results speak for themselves

WOW that website is wicked, the problem is there is so many products, I dont know where to start?? See my car has Ming Paint Protection on it (I got this with the car brand new is 06). I have the shampoo for my car from Ming that I use and never had to wax or detail the car as it turns very shiny after a wash and dry. The thing is, I have few swirl marks from washing the car (given its a black car) so was wondering if there ways to get rid of this without affecting the paint protection. I am also after towels, wash mitts (which is very important) and maybe interior care (for non leather).

Brian, its going to be very hard for you not to leave swirl marks on your paint - main reason being that subie paint is very soft

get yourself a quality wash mitt such as the megs lambswool or a microfibre one like the kence noodle wash mitt

get your self two wash buckets aswell - one for the wash shampoo, the other filled with clean water for u too rinse the mitt after every time u clean a panel - this will make sure u don't mix the crud u pick up off the paint and mix it with your wash shampoo

it would be best if u could also rinse down your car prior to attacking it with a mitt - that way u wash off most of the dirt which means less chance of swirling.

get a good soft microfibre drying towel - don't get a chamois as they can be quite harsh on your car's paint.

as for a wash shampoo, meguiars gold class is not bad, mothers california gold wash is also not bad either, but the one i would recommend is Bowden Own's Auto body wash gel - its 10 times better than the megs and mothers - its thicker and provides more lubricacy between the wash mitt and the paint

the only way u will get rid of the swirls is through machine polishing, and this will remove the paint protection

Brian, if you are looking at waxes.... I have some you might wanna try. Other ppl on this forum have been generous enough to lend/give me some of their products that they no longer use and I am happy to do the same for a fellow Liberty owner... although I don't have one at the moment... LOL!

I got Poor Boy's Natty Blue (designed for darker cars) you can use and try on your car if you want too. I also have the Natty's white

Another pointer... you haven't used a proper chamois until you have tried the waffle weave, IMO it is simply the best and most efficient chamois out there.

Another thumbs up for waxit.com.au, they also have a retail store up here in QLD now!

If you're willing to fork out the coin, swissvax waxes are great.

I'll post some pics next time i detail the lib, I'm planning to wash, clay bar, Swissvax cleaning fluid, Poorboys EX-P Sealant and then top it all off with a coat of Swissvax Saphir

how do you go with the bond of the EX-P on top of the cleaner fluid?
At the moment Im using Swisswax Samurai but I want more pop from the metallic so Im looking at Zaino Z2pro underneath and then the Samurai as a topper.
Iknow that you cant put Zaino over a wax or fluid but can you with EX-P?, may save me stripping the wax off
As for what to use on your new Lib recommend Waxit as well ,products sold by Dave at the lower end ie Poorboys are comparable in price to the better stuff sold in Supercheap etc, and on a whole are better and last longer
If you want a rich wet look as a general rule wax is your choice which will last about a month, or if you want bright bling look a polymer sealant is your choice such as Zaino or EX-P which will last better, about 4-6 months

i'd go a polish rather than the paint cleaners like swissvax if u wanted to lay down zaino first - maybe even 106ff ...............its just the oil left behind by "paint cleaners" is not always compatible with sealants.

Yep that was what I planned to do originally, clay, 106 ff , zaino layered with z6 and then swisswax
Just interested that Stu puts EXp over the cleaner fluid

Hey mate, haven't used the Poorboys on top of the Swissvax cleaning fluid yet, but dave from waxit seemed to feel that it would go well, he believed it would go well under or over swissvax wax also

A couple of pics of the Liberty after a Swissvax Samurai hit, the 2nd pic was just after I had taken the wax off so no time to sit in the sun yet




Next time i do it I'll get some close ups of the bonnet etc
