[MY07GT]

Hi Guys,

Just read the "Bang for your bucks" review in the Nov edition of Motor.

For all you MY07's out there, dont read it. lol.

We didnt get the best wrap.

In its catergory:

Cat 4 $50-80K
1. Mitsubishi EVO9
2. Subaru WRX STi
3. FPV F6 Typhoon
4. Nissan 350Z Track
5. VW R32 3-Door
6. Subaru Liberty GT 2.5 Spec B
7. BMW 130i Sport

Final BFYB Placing, it came 23/25.

Pros:
- Decent power
- Launches hard
- Good braking package for the car size

Cons:
- Least Racey out of the 25 cars
- Heavy, causing initial understeer
- Conservative
- Fake rear vents
- No angriness of the STi's power delivery
- They get just a Torsen LSD rear diff instead of the STi's active centre diff and a helical front LSD.

Meh I still love it, i wanted something luxurious and I'll make it handle and produce more power myself! lol.

I must also say, also not a great wrap up!

Talks about the biggest mid-range flat-spot, EVER!

Like Phil I am happy with the MY 07GT. The car would never rate well due to the way they perform the scoring in BFYB.

Things like luxury are not taken into account. I thought the lap times were good and indicated the potential of the car once tweaked.

I am not sure if it was that article but somewhere along the way someone else has commented that it is the grown up STI and if you want the raw performance with a plastic taxi like interior then you would go the STI.

I wanted the mix of perfromance, AWD and most importantly for me the luxury offered by GT Spec B and that is why I got it and not the Sti.

I didnt want another car that every little P-plater kid was driving. Yeah they mentioned that it was a more grown up version.

Yeah I definately needed the luxury factor, as it may need a baby seat in the back 1 day! lol!

Interesting that they listed the braking package as a Pro, they were bagging it out in the September (or October, I can't remember) issue.

So the MY07 wagon would've rated further up the list:
- no tacky fake rear vents
- funky good looks especially on the 18" wheels.

Who cares anyway. I had my bang for bucks rex last time. It's nice to have a car that rides instead of rattles.

ANYWAY I LOVE MY JDM B4 IT IS UNIQUE.....BESIDES IT ONLY COST $17,500

If you read the artical this year they wernt testing how the cars performs on the road so offcourse the liberty wasnt going to rate very highly. If you buy a Stock Subaru and want to take it to the track you buy a wrx sti, if you want a luxurious subaru with plenty of poke and still handles well out here in "the real world" you buy a 3r spec b or a GT spec b.

I dont like a couple of new things in the GT, put those things aside its still a bloody nice piece of gear, it performs well (with the potential to peform alot beter) and the same can be said about the way it handles as well. For the money we have paid we have got alot in our cars, the guys at motor didnt appreciate or take into consideration the important things like how it performs as a daily driver in the real world. For those who are a bit more grown up they will not buy half the highly overated billy carts that scored high like your evo's and Lotus's. I mean ffs they gave the trophy to a commodore because of how much poke the thing had and it was cheap and holden have put alot of work into improving the cars build quality i have driven both the gt spec b and the new ve ss v and i know which one is a better car not that i am biased or anything.

I read that was well but, the other thing I read was that the car they had was pre production so I am not sure if they made a change or whether the brakes on the test car where shagged.

liberty's aren't proper performance cars. they're more luxury with a bit of go. i'd take one over a VE commodore anyday. and the HSV range, ewwww. they're ugly as sin.

in the B4 review, they reckon not enough were sold in aus to get ideas on how to fix the VOD. spose noone @ motor has heard of teh internets. hehe.

come 3 years time, you'll trade your VE SS in for $22k. your lib will get you tons more. and to me, AWD is a better safety option than RWD with ESP ( or whatever holdens name for it is ).

lastly, they're holdens. the workers are looking forward to their weekend of football, booze and hookers on friday afternoons. that's why every 3rd commodore you see has only 1 brake light working.

but saying that, my brother took me for a spin in his missus' ( my sister in laws ) VE SV6 and man does it go. still, it's a holden. i rest my case.

Do I detect a hint of blind bias? Or even a touch of badge snobbery something I thought normally existed from owners of vehicles supporting price tags > $100K.

Yes the AWD offers significant benefits in handling & safety by providing traction to all wheels! Then there are different types of AWD systems that may argue varying levels of prowess (ala Audi over all others & Subaru over Mazda MPS!).

However to discount the added benefits of Stability Control systems (VDC as offered by Subaru) sounds rather blinkered. Try you will be amazed at the benefits!

Using that input data, VDC can tell whether the car is going where the driver is steering it, detecting and correcting understeer (front-wheel drift) and oversteer (rear-wheel drift). WRT to resale one has to be practical & realistic but not sure on the true & absolute value of “tons” (speaking from personal experience with a MY04 GT!)

I do think reading through these posts there is an understanding, although somewhat subliminal, that the article is “horses for courses” and is designed to sell magazines!

Don’t get me wrong I love our Subaru Liberty GT (STi at that) but I did not buy to be the fastest, quickest etc etc but rather it offered a balance of attributes that best suited our needs & price range. It’s a lovely car but; best BFYB - I don’t think so. Refined, luxurious with a good level of performance safety & handling without an excessive price tag yes!

I like to offer praise & encouragement to the local efforts as it is not only an important sector of the Australian economy but to see what was achieved by the locals, using overseas cars as benchmarks, is commendable in my mind. GO AUSTRALIA!

I think secretly others are recognising these achievements quietly singing praises between the lines.

If not for competition among manufacturers we would probably not enjoy some of the benefits seen today! (Incuding AWD, VDC etc)

I better stop there taking too much space!
