Latest Wheels Magazine

Postby viriix » Sun Jan 06, 2008 8:12 pm

Was at the newsagency and saw the Wheels Magazine, while skimming it inside noticed on page 92? Ford XR6 vs Liberty GT B.Spec vs Aurion TRD.

All I can say is bullocks to it.

Aussie single minded garbage.

They pretty much said yep - same price bracket so we'll compare them.

Though the write up was pretty biased derived from raw idiocy of Ford vs Holden mentality.

It was to be expected.

My choice was between the IS250 and the Liberty GTB, the interior is heaps better in the GTB and in imho the only advantage the IS250 has over the Liberty is SATNAV and DVD is better than the stock system in the GTB. I like the lexus for its looks more and the badge is a lot higher regarded than Subaru but I am one happy Subaru owner.

I'm not sure why they would compare large car V6's to a medium size 4 banger. They are very different cars. Incidentally we have my MY07 GT and a MY07 Aurion (same class as the TRD sans the blower) in our household. Two very different cars and two very different philosophies.

If they wanted to do it by price, why not chuck in a BMW 318 or Audi A4? Those are up there in price (without any features or accessories) and would be even more behind than the Liberty.

I don't know the relevance of the tests they do on Wheels or Motor nowadays. Do I really give a rats about how the Corolla performed on the race track? Am I really going to base my next car on how it performed compared to a Ferrari or one of the other super cars? I know they're desperate to compare anything on the race track just so they can punt around those high priced cars.

Yeah I agree with you Arith.

If they explained in a quick introduction what the aim of the comparison was, then yes. But comparison's of a turbo and supercharged V6 compared to a 4 is ridiculous.

As far as a Lexus goes, I personally wouldn't consider it better than a Subaru. Mind you, I also come from being a VTEC YOOOoooo boy with a Honda Accord Euro Lux, and there is no way in hell any old Toyota is better than a Honda, let alone my subie.. unless we're talkin an NSX for free ^__^

Motor and Wheels is garbage mostly. I picked it up to glance at because I wanted to read about the new Mazda6, but I looked at the pictures and the first thing that came to mind was 'camry' and I closed it.

Though, I did enjoy the article on the EVO magazine comparing the new Subaru Impreza STI and Lancer Evo 10.

Can't remember what it said tho.. but they all say similar things.. and thiings we'll never see anyways :p

Viriix

Your first mistake was quoting it to be "Wheels mag", its really has been a commodore falcon camary mag for past few years.

Don't waste your money mate, wheels is crap, I will never forget the test they did using a merc e55 amg bmw m5 and audi rs6 with good old vt hzv senator..... and guess what won??
Even being a HSV fan, I did not agree with the verdict

As for TRD, did they ever sort out the over revving issue, i perosnaly know of one which blew last week

I wish i was, it was when the first vt senator (1997/98) was released, with its piston slapping gen 3 v8. I think i still have the issue at home somewhere.
