Liberty - Built-in Sat Nav

Hi,
I am wondering if the sat-nav system in the liberty range has a inertial system with it i.e if you go into the cross city tunnel will it lose the plot or will it continue on without any issues. As I have seen where in the city i.e tall buildings, a sat-nav is useless as it keeps losing the plot.

any help on this will be most appreciated

I was down at Subaru Docklands last saturday (looking at an Impreza for my wife, but she prefers the new Suzuki SX4), and was checking out the Navi display there.
The salesman assured me that it does indeed use in-car information in addition to the GPS.

I agree. Especially when in Singapore they have a whole media centre (dvd/gps/blutooth/image viewer/phone book/etc).

I think Subaru Australia needs to try and keep that competitive edge like Mercs & BMW's.

I would have spent 3K if it played dvd's atleast!

My car has it, got the price down to $2500 installed, so far it has been good, accept it is a bit slow to inform you when you have reached the street you need to turn into. Touch screen typing in the entire street name can be a pain as well. The map on the screen can be a little confusing and the graphics aren't the best.

The sat nav seems to be a bit pricy, but i have used the one in a Mercedes, and although it is a bit faster, and more accurate with DVD video function, it cost $7000, so i think the subaru system is good value for money.

I can confirm that when using it through a tunnel (eg Domain in Melbourne & others in Northern NSW) the system operates without any issues.

Also compared it directly with the Garmin Nuvi 660 on a recent trip back from Queensland and can advise both operated faultlessly (although proposed routes through greater Syndey area were different).

Some personal comments in regard to the Subaru option:-

* Extremely expensive for what you end up with when comparing performance capabilities. However other OEM intalls can be just as expensive and in some cases more.
* Provides other in car data relating to trip computer etc.
* Very neat, purpose built & secure.
* Limited up spec'ing or adding on additional features. (can't easily upload POI such as safety cameras etc)
* No bluetooth conectivity for hands free (nuvi 660 accesses phone book etc with key pad dialling)
* If you are not worried about aesthetics or the security concerns of a mobile unit then I would suggest looking at a good portable unit.

Or contemplate a Car PC set-up for under $2K that will give you everything you need and is upgradeable.
