Frothing in coolant reservoir tank..

Postby TheGreatPunanski » Fri Jul 15, 2016 7:42 pm

Hi all,

I have recently purchased an 07' Liberty GT TBSTI 4 days ago (I'm already in love with this car!).. I have noticed some frothing with brown gunk building up in the coolant reservoir, I automatically knew this was bad news.. and also when I start my car in the mornings, I can hear water slushing and trickling behind the dashboard?.. Never owned a soobie before but my mechanic confirms I've got a leaking HG. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow to get looked at and hopefully fixed, has anyone ever experienced this sort of issue before? And how often do the HG fail?

Its a lucky dip, and yours lucked out...
All head gaskets will eventually blow, leak or weep, its the fusible link between block n heads.
As long as the workshop is competent, consider upgrading to ARP head studs (at your own expense) whilst the HG's are being replaced.
Since the timing gear is going to be removed, consider related upgrades if theres scope for that in your future, eg upgrade cams etc.
