fridges

Postby LIBER8ED » Sat Mar 08, 2008 9:22 am

hey trendsetters... me again

does anyone know anything about fridges...????

ive got a 5 year old westinghouse, and the fridge has stopped cooling... the freezer still works fine, but it seem that the fridge part is not cooling at all no matter what i do..

are fridges something that need regassing like air con systems etc or is my firdge just stuffed and me needing a new one??

Haha exact same thing happened to me last month where the freezer worked but the cooler section was dead. Turns out one of the fuses at the back of the fridge blew, after replacing it everything returned to normal. (One of my mates did it, i personally don't know a thing about fridges). 8)

If the freezer is still working then it sounds like the compressor is OK, that's the most expensive bit to replace. As Resonate says, sounds like a fuse.

mate could be one of three things, you'll find maybe the back panel inside the freezer will be iced over restricting airflow from the evaporator, this is usually caused by the defrost timer not allowing the element to come on or the element & its thermostat assy or lastly the fan itself being faulty.

there is a lil frost/ice forming inside the freezer too, does that make a diff.. you think i need to clean it all out and make sure nothing is blocked?

it won't be blocked it will have a faulty part gauranteed, in the fridge where the thermostat is located you'll find a little knob on the underside of the housing, you can turn this clockwise until you hear a loud click then the compressor will cut out, when this happens its in defrost mode. Listen inside the freezer for a sizzling sound, if you can hear this you then need a new timer as it would'nt be advancing, if you can't hear it you'll need a new element & defrost thermostat assy. Good luck
