See what really happens inside an engine

Someone rigged up a high speed, heat resistant camera inside a cylinder, and filmed what happens as it is running!

Someone had the great idea of putting a high-pressure, heat-resistant camera inside the cylinder of a four-stroke engine. Shooting at 1000 fps, the camera recorded just exactly what happens to make engines run. Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow!

In particular, you can see that the fuel burns, it doesn't explode.

Great find Ric AND that would all be happening in milliseconds or less too!

Curious that while you can see the inlet valve close, there is no similar movement of the exhaust valve visible - it goes from full open one frame to inlet opening next....

I don't think it shows a complete cycle. i.e. the video stops (and loops back to the start) just before the point where the next cycle should start, so in effect that bit is cut out of the video. It's a pity, would be better if it formed a complete cycle.

great video, it goes to show how inefficient the valve system for getting air into (and exhaust gas out of) the engine really is.

I think Ric is correct, its not a complete cycle. Shame , would be good to be able to see things like valve timing overlap etc. at different revs and so on.
