Advice on fixing this scratch

Hi guys, so after 6 months of keeping the car immaculate, my brother returns overseas only to leave me this present on his first day of me letting him drive it. (He didn't park the car properly, so now i'm left with this and a broken automatic garage door).

What's your opinion on what i should do to fix it? As it bugs the hell out of me. Do i need to take the step of taking it to the panel beaters? Thanks.

hmmm im not too sure, but i guess it depends how damaged it is ?

looks like a lite scratch so, a touch up maybe?

There are mobs around who specialise in fixing scratches without respraying the whole bootlid/bumper-cover. Try your local newspaper and the yellow-pages. You could also Google it. :wink:

Thanks for the tips guys, i'll look it up.

Haven't got him yet but i have been trying a few practice slaps on a pillow, the scratch actually runs all the way down the bumper too but i was too lazy to take 2 pics.

how deep is the scratch?

It's not very deep fish, but it did cut into my subaru emblem nicely.

if it was your garage door, shouldnt your rear bumper be goooooooooone? as for the scratch, yep yellow pages..

Well what happened was, it initially did that scratch in the picture and rested in the rear bumper part (theres a little piece sticking out of the bottom of the roller door that did that damage), then in my brothers haste, instead of hitting the button to stop the garage door, he quickly turned on the car and moved it forward but it still wasn't enough, so the door proceeded to go down and that part sticking out did more damage to the bottom bumper, but not as badly as what you see in the pick. :wink:

can't really tell from the pic, but if the scratch isn't too deep you might be able to buff it out.

If you have not gone thru the clearcoat, technically you should be able to buff out .
That being said you would have to really know what you were doing,regards sanding and buffing to achieve this without really doing more damage.
I am on a detailing forum (same as Brendan, where are u dude?) and most of the guys on there I dont think would attempt it and give it to the pros.
I dont think judging by the photos that you need a spray though

yeah its probably the same forum i'm on then. resonates lives down the road from me so i might check it out to see how bad it really is. if he's lucky enough we might be able to get it out.

i've got a similar scratch, my mate buffed out every scratch but couldn't get rid of that scratch. will have to respray it.
