MY07 speedo inaccuracy

Postby OzSTi » Thu Oct 11, 2007 9:36 pm

I've long suspected my speedo over reads but just this week I've had the opportunity to check my speedo against a GPS.

Assuming GPS is accurate (can anyone comment?), at an indicated 60km/h, the GPS says I'm doing 53km/h.

This corelates with my subjective observations and shows it is more than 10% out.

Has anyone else got the same problem?
Michael.

Yep!!!!

If i'm at 80km/h on speedo, i'm doing about 73km/h on gps
If i'm at 90km/h on speedo, im doing about 81km/h on gps

110km/h on speedo shows as 100km/h on gps

I think my reading is very similar to yours for 60km/h on speedo as well..

Is this the Subaru optional GPS?

I'm going to speak to Subaru and consider this a warrantee issue. My previous two Subies were fine and out current Kluger is spot on and I think a greater than 10% discrepancy is unacceptable.

Your car is just slow... literally ;)

It's common for cars to read under the speed limit. There's a 10% manufacturer's tolerance.

No, I use a TomTom Go710! and I've also had a RoadAngel earlier..

I know there are innacuracies.. and then I also know the speed cameras in NSW allow for more.. discrepencies lol..

So.. you'd really have to be going fast to get a ticket.. which.. well isn't hard :p

The Liberty has a greater variance than any car i've driven and tested with a GPS of some sort.

My Honda Euro was roughly 3-5km/h out and the later Holdens were pretty spot on the dot!

Let us know what Subie says about it...

You will notice that the test on the new WRX is the same. Approx 93 km/h at 100km/h

Haha yeah same here! The other day i was going down this stretch of road hitting 60km/h exactly on my speedo because there was a cop next to me and all the cars in front were speeding off into the distance and i started laughing thinking at least one will get pulled over, but instead even the cop flew off.

Yep tested mine when I first got it as I suspected the same - felt slower than the speedo indicated. My GPS (Garmin ETrex Legend handheld) revealed around 10% inaccuracy

Looks like I may have to go for 20's to fix it up!!!
