What are Wilwood brakes like compared to Brembos? I am looking at a kit and its quite a good price, but i dont know if that makes them inferior to brembos or not? And do they fit Libertys if they are for US WRX (but apparently not '04 STis?).

I was eyeing them off. They fit beyond non-Brembo wheels since they aren't as thick. In saying that I imagine the body is not as large in mass either so less heat dissipation.

Road tests on LGT say they are good (better than stock GT brakes) but not as good as Brembos.

I am pretty keen on the 6 piston front, 4 piston rear, Willwood BBK. I got some prices off Phat GT, just short of $4k, which sounds pretty reasonable to me. (you could get them heaps cheaper in the states but you have to work out part numbers, shipping, customs, GST, duty, etc....a bit hard?)

My only hesitation is will they fit under my std 18" 3.0R-B wheels? I have another set of rims on the car that will clear even Brembo's easily, but I wanted to put some semi-slicks on the std rims for track days (I know they are heavy, but, they are very strong and Im not sure my Avanti's are strong enough for track work?)

Where/how can I find out if they the Wilwood's will fit under my std rims? I asked Phat GT and he wasnt 100% sure.

you probably wont know if they fit until you get them on, just budget for a new set of wheels with the right offset with such a brake upgrade.

Willwood have on their site, a fitment template. Print it out onto card paper then cut out the shape and hold it against your wheel hub face to determine if enough clearance.

Just thought I would let everyone know what I found out about the Wilwood big brake kits.

The wheel clearance (from the hub to the outer edge of the caliper) on the 6 piston superlight kit is approx 19mm. For reference the Brembo's are approx 32mm.
Based on that I am pretty confident that these brakes will easily fit inside my std 3.0R-B 18" wheels.

I will update and post some photo's when I have them fitted.

One thing to check before you get them is availability of pads and also spare parts for rebuilds, especially in Australia.

If I bought the kit I would get a 'few' sets of pads at the same time. Also Wilwwod are HUGE in the US and have hundreds of distributors, many are friendly to Australian customers. Three days freight and half the price is something I can live with. Thant being said I know of a number of places that support Wilwwod products in Aus.

With the AUD at parity with the USD it's pretty hard to pass up (as long as I can get comfortable with all the liitle details, the devil is always in the detail!)

Is this the 6/4 kit that they're talking about or a different brake kit?

Im not sure which kit TeK's LGT reference review was for but my investigation have lead to to the conclusion that the Wilwood Superlight 6/4 kit is superior to the Brembo's (STI OEM ones 4/2, not the equivalent Brembo 6/4 caparison)

Im looking at buying this for my Lib, just wanted to know the community opinions on the kits (and whether the rears will fit with the OE handbrake).
Rims are Advan Racing RS 18x8 +45
