split cv boot on front left passenger side =(

Postby tkboi » Sat Mar 27, 2010 2:10 am

hey guys, wondering anyone got any information on this ? i know the cv boot itself isnt expensive but labor of putting a new one in is =/, was researching about it myself and i know that there is two cv boots, a inner and outer. would i have to replace both? i had my car serviced today and all the guy said was "ur cv boot has a split in it needs to be replaces asap!" but besides that he didnt tell me much. besides buying it from subaru which costs quite dear as all their oem parts. i remember there was a spare parts site but i seem to cant find it on this forum using "search", i found the american spare site website but delivery of that would just be expensive and cheaper to just get it off Subaru, any information would help guys :D

cheers tommy

CV Boots are like condoms, if you split one why bother replacing it? :)

Some people just replace it and depending on how long/badly it's been split the bearings may be on their way out so you are up for a new shaft anyway (get a reco one). It's not a hard DIY job to replace the boot:

Same problem with me. But mine not in the inner part, but on the outer part, which twisted and resulting leaking and grease all over my wheels+brake.

Changing the replacement inner part only usually only 150 AUD which I bought that price. So it's a reconditioning part. But if u buy new one, RRP from subaru is 800ish not include tax. Da*n expensive.

If I'm not wrong u can check it here:

OR

Try ask that guy. Hope helps. Changing CV joints, u can bring it to pedders or local suspension shop. Not hard to change.

Cheers

Buy reconditioning and replace it. Same problem on the left only like my car did.

Actually the broken thing is on inside CV joints, not the whole. So recommended to buy reconditioning. Cheaper and safer.

I think your car could be running on 3 wheel drive only. CMIIW

Yep buy the whole lot and change it. Don't change in subaru. Just change in suspension or pedders or general workshop. Cheaper and it is fast to change, only 30-1 hour change.

Thank
