About a year ago I had Whiteline sway bars installed on my MY04 2.5i and I added KW V2 coilovers around 6 months ago. Driving around yesterday the car started making a loud clunking noise when hitting any decent sized bumps. Unfortunately my street is one of the roughest in Hobart.

A quick check under the car revealed that the right rear sway bar mount has broken clean off, just above the bushing. I haven't had a chance to have a good look at it yet but it looks like this piece is welded to the chassis. What's the best fix for this? Reinforced sway bar mounts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah they are a weak link in the design of our cars (Imprezas too).

I installed the AVO reinforcement brackets as a preventative:

You'll need to get the broken mount welded back on. Then install one of these brackets to prevent it happening again. It's common if you are running a stiff swaybar and/or stiff spring rates especially if you have bad roads.

There are 2 sizes get the correct one for yours.

AVO have 2 variants of these mounts. one for pre and one of post facelifted car

The distinction isn't between pre- and post-facelift, it's between turbo and NA, I believe.

Will having a broken mount do any further damage if I keep driving the car? I'm driving carefully but I can't really walk to work.

the ones i currently have on my car fitted as badly on my 2.5i as they do my GTB.

the first set was totally out. the second set fit. not perfect, but they fit.

edit: clarify. the 1st set i got didn't fit the 2.5i, so i took them back and changed them. took the brackets off when i sold the car and bolted them onto the GTB.

i'd take the damm thing off altogether, i mean the sway bar. then i'd drive like an old granny without her glasses.

Bad news about the broken mount mate. Make sure you find a good welder.

On a slightly different topic how about a review on the coilovers??

It's gonna understeer like a bitch and the back is gonna be rolly polly like smokey n da bandit! Drive carefully

yarrrr!!! mucho understeer, but won't break the other one....
