Im interested in the BC Racing coilovers - 2 of my friends have them, one on an EVO 6.5 TME and one on a Legnum. Both are happy with them so was considering them as a cheaper alternative to Tein.

Tangcla - any chance of finding out a little more on the specs of the BR series for the Legacy? Spring Rates? Pillowball or rubber mounts? Would prefer rubber top hats as not really worried about camber adjustment, just want damper and height control. If you could get a cost delivered to Adelaide 5000 that would be great!

Cheers!

would his name be Luke by any chance? He quoted me $1550 delivered to Perth for the BC Racing Coilovers. He also tells me these are NOT the same as the http://www.bcracing-na.com/bcproduct.html

The ones he is offering have springrates of 6kg front 8kg rear

Matty do you have pillowball upper mounts, or were you able to order them with rubber top mounts?

Cheers

This is what Luke at WS quoted me last week:

I can have a complete kit delivered to your door for $1550. Our kits include all the parts needed, and aren't missing items required, often found with grey imports. Our kits come with a full one year warranty.

The springrates are 6kg front 8kg rear, and come as a complete kit, shock bodies, hardware attached to the shock, springs, top mounts, adjusters, and adjuster spanners.

Picture can be found in the link above, the kit we have here is brand new, never fitted."

Well a seller in NZ has the BR kits for $1,285AU delivered.
His listing has the following as included in the sale:

  • Pillowball camber fronts
  • spring rate on the front is 6kg and 8kg rear
  • This is a complete set of 4
  • All kits come with a Tool bag which includes The Ring spanners For Height Adjustment

I asked the following question:
Hi there,
I'm intrested in BC Coilovers for my 04 Liberty GT Wagon and you were recommended to me from a friend who bought Legnum coilovers from you.
My 04 ADM Legacy GT Wagon is essentially the same as the JDM spec with 2.0T and I'm wondering if you have BC coilovers to suit. I see these have a spring rate of 6f / 8r - is this for sedan or wagon? Is there any choice of spring rate? I look forward to your response.

And this was the response:

Hi , yes the sets i have fit the wagon and sedans. The spring rates of 6/8 suite both body shapes. This rate is for street specs and the only ones i carry and order . If you require heavier rates i can do so and get sent direct to you from BC with UPS for $200 shipping but you cant go lighter in rates as this will be too soft and damage the valving inserts hence void warranty...cheers james

I have not heard of this brand before but I would suggest that you check what the warranty arrangement is. If you have to send them to/from a service agent in NZ or in the USA then any cost saving will be quickly eaten up by freight if you have any issues. Needless to say it will be a PITA having a car with no struts unless you want to put the stockies back on!

Call me a cynic but that is really cheap for coilovers. Too cheap.

For example I am buying a set of Bilstein B8 dampers for $1400 and that is at mate's rates (probably at or below trade price). I would still need to buy springs as well which will be $400.00+ but I am confident that the setup is high quality and will last a very long time (I am expecting 100,000Kms+ daily driver use). When it comes to finally needing a rebuild or warranty repairs I take them to North Melbourne or any of the service agents nation wide.

Def weigh up the pros and cons and consider if (cheap) coilovers are the right thing for you.

I'm considering these as well, possibly soon.

There are heaps of reviews and opinions on these coilovers on LGT.com. They seem quite popular in the States as a street setup. The only problem with them seems to come from people incorrectly adjusting the height by turning the rings holding the spring as opposed to the bottom ring to alter the height only. This has been leaving the springs a bit loose and creating a 'noise'. Apart from this user error i have not read any complaints or issues on these coilovers during my research.
