WRX Brakes to fit 1993 (1st GEN) Liberty

Postby Cookie_187 » Thu Aug 20, 2009 9:11 pm

i'm keen as on the big red Subaru brakes that i've seen on some WRXs and my brakes could use upgrading anyway. i'd love the get them and have them powdercoated blue... can anyone tell me which ones would fit my first generation liberty (i've seen it done), and where i can get them cheaper than ordering them through Subaru because that would be mega expensive? i'm going to sydney soon so ideas of places to look there or in newcastle is alright

Getting them for a reasonable price is the easy bit - ebay, classifieds, etc. I think there might even be a set going in the For Sale section here. As to whether they will fit your Gen 1, I don't know

Are you talking about WRX 4 pot brakes? I'd say you are, you'd be looking and trying to bid against others that are wanting this easy upgrade too!
My old 92 Gen1 Series2 GX with a RS conversion Wagon I fitted SB Forester brakes to it, they are only 2 pot brakes but have the same rotor disc diamater @ 294mm (stock RS 277mm GX = 260mm) they also have the same braking force/clamping pressure.
These outbraked alot of other Qld RS cars on every cruise I went on as well as many mountain runs never developing any fade. These are alot cheaper than going with 4pots too, I got mine from Sunspares in Yandina, QLD as a package which was Rotors/Calipers/Pads for half the price for the same condition 4 Pots, unless your doing track work the 4 pots add no extra value. If you want them painted, clean them and spray paint them with UHT brake paint to what ever color you desire.

For more tuning/modifying tips for the Gen 1's you should sign up to RSLC (http://www.rslibertyclub.org) there is years and years on details and parts of what will work and won't work for your model, just use the "search" function before asking the basic questions...
