Hopefully someone who has done wat I have can help.
I have Whiteline adjustable 20mm rear swaybar fitted on the soft setting.
I have jut put on a Whiteline adjustable 22mm front swaybar fitted on the soft setting.
I have driven the car and it seems neutral with no understeer, I was going to move the rear to the harder settings but am now in two minds.
Thoughts?

On my MY04 wagon I've changed my setup to hard (both front and back) and love it, no negative effects that I can think of.
Balance should not be affected as long as you set both ends to the same setting or play with different settings to achieve more "taily" or more "understeery" attitude.
Setting rear to hard will definetelly make the rear end step out easier.
At one stage I have had front OEM and rear WL set to hard - while it was entertaining it was potentially dangerous so I have subsequently installed a matching front bar.

After some more thought and some driving I ended up changing the rear to the harder setting as I figured having put a bigger bar on the front I need to change the rear to eliminate the reintroduction of any understeer.
Thanks for the post.

Front bar is larger in diameter but it should be a match for the smaller diameter rear when it comes to overall car balance.
Playing with swaybar settings could be a bit of a personal preference as well but theoretically hard rear setting and soft front would mean slightly out of balance and rear easier to swing around when you lift off.
As long as it works for you...

to cater for the ignorant, can someone just clairfy the purpose of a sway bar??
is it a handling thing to do with the suspension?

just a bar that links the left and right suspension components to reduce body roll during cornering. great mod for the lib in my opinion. hmmm i also show you that when we meet up. hehe..
