Looking to change the Rotors and Pads on my MY04 Lib GT. Reason for new rotors is I have a slight brake shudder under heavy braking and figured it would be cheaper/easier to just replace them rather than get them machined and probably still have the same problem.

My use is mostly normal street driving with the occasional spirited run.

I was thinking DBA 4000 sloted but am weighing up cost/need/performance.

Does anybody have any thing to say about Protex Slotted Rotors? It was recommended by ABS, I think it must be their home brand.

Cant say I have ever heard of the brand. Plenty of info on Dixcel's if you want tech info try http://www.dixcel.co.jp/en/

I'm very happy with mine and sourced them from Troy at Prospeed Racing for a good price.

As GTSPECB has said, I too have never heard of that brand.

I have bought the DBA slotted rotors. Being fitted this week.

Dixcel, DBA would be my suggestions.

Sentinel, which ones are you going for, and where are you getting them done?

4000 Slotted mate. No need for anything more than that (unless you track very regularly or want the rotors to have some bling).

I got them myself i.e. I didn't give the car to someone and say "gimme a DBA brake package". I sorted the rotors, pads, lines etc. That make sense? LOL.

Ha! No, I meant who were you going to get them fitted by - or are you doing it yourself? I was going to get the Dixcel's shipped from Perth (not sure of a supplier in Melbourne), but not able to fit them at home - I guess I just take them in to the local tyries?

I made enquires (to DBA) to find out what the difference in the actual rotor material was between 4000 and 5000..... answer was nothing, no difference. Same metal used in the 4000 as the 5000 series.

The street series... the cheapest of the bunch, I was advised to steer clear of them if you drive your car like you stole it

PRice, however I"m not sure how much just the outer rotor would cost to replace. I haven't bothered trying to price it up yet.

yeah, the advantage with the 5000 was the separate hat which helped to insulate the bearings from the heat in the rotor

I got a quote from V-Sport a while ago for $252 per rotor that come with the replacement nuts.

To help better understand the reason for the original question.

The Protex slotted rotors are $150 each.
The DBA 4000 slotted rotors are $240 each + postage costs
Costs slightly cheaper for rears.

The DBA's have an extremely good reputation. But when you fit 4 rotors the difference in cost starts to get up there compared to the Protex rotors.

Has anybody had any experience with Protex rotors and have anything good, bad or indifferent to report?

Being an unknown brand does not imply bad quility. Remember all brands where unknown at some point.

You're not comparing apples with apples.

DBA also sell junk made in random Chinese foundries, but you are trying to price match their premium Australian made product with something that may not even come from the same factory 2 months in a row.
