OK, so I finally worked through everything I needed to do for paint my Brembo's. All the ducks were in a row... One problem - trust of people!!

Needless to say, I've now got SAND IN THE CHAMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!! Fark me! Even the bloody machined faces for the oil lines and mounting points are bloody done! This guy a) did not listen, and b) took no care on the taped bits at all. Yes, I should have trusted my intuition and gone elsewhere, but this guy reckoned he'd done plenty before...

So, we live, we learn. Needless to say, they are now being totally refurbished by someone who knows what they are doing. The calipers are being totally stripped and split. Blasted, cleaned, powder and clear coated.

Question is - can I reuse the seals etc or do I need a refurb kit from Brembo?

Ah bad luck mate. Did they still charge you for it? I take it you won't have your nuggets before the cruise?

No charge - I walked out! There's no 'damage' as such (only my ego ). It's just that there is sand in the brakes now, hence why I've now gotta to do a full refurb. In hindsight - I think that it's a good thing that it's happened. It's made sure that I will have 100% good brakes with little risk of brake fail. Won't need a refurb when it comes to sell either so the new buyer will also benefit.

As for the cruise - well, um, er, dunno actually. It will depend on the answer to my question about re-using the seals etc or needing a new kit. If I need a new kit, definitely not, if I can re-use, we just might be able to squeeze it. So, does anyone know about the re-using them??

Are they the original seals or a new set? If its the original ones then definitely a new set is needed but if they have only been in a short period whilst old mate filled them with sand then they should be fine as long as they are removed without any damage.

Steve, I know someone who is definitely up for the job to rebuild your caliper for you, if you're interested.

sorry to hear that steve .....how did they get sand inside? i brought 2 bolts to place where the lines attached to. sounds like the guy didnt know what he was doing..hope you have better luck withe the next guy.

They're the original Brembo set. Guess they'll need replacing. Any idea of the sort of dough to get a set?

Definitely didn't know what he was doing contrary to his advice! It'll probably cost me a bit to fix, but worth it in the end I reckon. No amount of $$ can substitute for safety - especially brakes!

+1, you need to make sure you get all the debri out, also check the threads, as the blasting may have damaged them which could in turn result in leaks.

Don't know exact cost but I doubt it'll be very much, it's only a few 'o' rings. I think the only time you really need to touch ur toes with these calipers is when you initially buy them

Definitely agree here. I'll check with the guys and make sure all is good. Also need them to look at the oil feeder bolt to make that isn't a mess either. Does anyone know if the standard feeder bolt is the same as the Brembo one?

Cheers mate - I hope it's cheap!! LOL. Good thing I suppose is that I'll effectively have new brakes at the end of this debacle!
