Am looking at getting new wheels. Im pretty keen on upping tyres to 235/40R18. Wider and cheaper as theyre more common. So minimum I need 18x8. Which is fine just interested in what offsets I can run with the least amount of work as in rolling guards excessive camber etc. Id like as much poke as possible but not looking for usdm style. Any advice appreciated on offsets.

Cheers in advance

You can easily and safely put 235 width tyres on a 7.5" wide wheels. Just so you know you have more options. :)

Though its not covered under australian standards. 8" minimum for 235/40R18 though 8.5" is optimal.
235/45R18 thoigh can be run on 7.5" rim even 245/45R18 on 7.5"

Im looking at 235/40R18 as it is slightly less rolling diameter than stock 215/45R18 but is closer RD than 225/45R18 which I run now. Also the 235s are cheaper as they are more common

They'll fit - the cars are physically identical (the TbSTI models were built from GT Spec.B cars).

Are you talking 08 STi Liberty or 08 STi Impreza? As Manaz said the Liberty ones fit but the Impreza ones are a different PCD, 5x114.3 against the Liberty 5x100. You can make them fit with an adapter but this is illegal in all Aus states.

As we found out today:
235 40 18 AD08R wont fit.....as they are 242mm wide just under the contact patch.

225 AD08R on 8.5 inch rim will have great turn in though :D
CURRENT - ATP GTX 3576 - 22psi - 283.7awkw
OLD - Dom 1.5Xtr - Last dyno 254ahkw, previous 238ahkw, first 224awkw.

On car. We measured up n there was 5 mm extra per side at same location on the side wall.
Lib scrubs the fronts on high speed, large mid corner bumps occasionally.

I want no scubbing as can not risk damage to front guards as they are special.

I am also NOT raising the car up 5mm all round...... so 225s will fit well.
Ill let the tyre compound n pattern do the work.

Thanks Daniel. Any issues with wheel offset, paint peeling etc? How have they handled potholes and other undulations?
Cheers

No issues with offsets or fitting them, they fit perfectly with 225/40 tyres although you could put 235 wide if you prefer. May need rear guard work to fit 235 tyres without scrubbing or rubbing though.

Potholes/undulations no problems, they seem pretty strong and reasonably light for the specs. I had a few paint chips (no peeling though) fairly quickly which I'm assuming was either careless tyre fitters or rocks/debris from the road.
