They fit nicely. Im running a 18x8 +45 and they fit with 225's with no guard rolling or scrubbing too.

Wheels... ROTA
Size....18" x 8.5"
Offset....+44
Tyres... Bridgestone Potenza RE003 225/40r 18
Suspension .... TEIN Coilovers..
TEIN coilovers negates the need for guard rolling, as well as not needing to mess with sway bars, end links ETC.
Would clear Brembos..

Can anyone tell me the widest I can go without any worries about scrubbing or guard rolling, and what offset? Or rather, the closest to that I'm likely to find on the used market? Sticking with 18s.

And is there a lightweight racing sort of Enkei or BBS or whatever that's popular enough to find second hand?

It's the tyre that ultimately matters when it comes to clearance. Depends how much you're willing to stretch it.

The stock tbSTI 18x7.5 will probably be your best bet if you're not changing anything on the car, matched with 225/40/18 tyres. They are not light at all however. There's nothing else that is popular on the used market that is from a decent enough brand in that type of size.

You can probably fit 18x8 on a 225/40/18 without any issue, depending on on offset, likely around 48 or higher. You will likely run into issues with 235 or wider.

Having read this whole thread from start to finish it's very dependant on your suspension setup. Stock suspension seems to allow a bit more poke and can easily go to 235's on a +45 offset. Lower the car though or add coilovers to the equation, and it may be less than that.

I'm only running stock suspension atm, but in case I change it later, I'm thinking +48 would be better in 18 x 8 or 8.5 inch rims. I also want to run 235's or 245's since they're a cheaper size.

On another note, would anybody happen to know how much the standard 18 inch GT-B wheels weigh? I'd Ideally like something a bit lighter than these without going crazy on the expense.

Edit: found a guy in the US weighed them and came up with 25.5 pounds or 11.57kg

Yes they're between 11-12kg, that sounds about right. They're pretty heavy. Almost anything you buy aftermarket will be lighter especially since you'll probably get a larger size with similar mass too.

Poke will be an issue if it rubs the guards - it'll either destroy them on the tyres hence why it's not advisable on stock suspension IMO.

I've got a sixth GT-B rim here with no tyre, been meaning to weigh it.

Luggage scales show 11.49kg.

Hey, would the lip on the rim be thinner on light wheels? GT-B is ~13.3mm. Although looking at the clip on a wheel weight on the back, that suggests it's uniform across the board... but come to think of it, that only applies to the inner lip.

Currently have 225s on em, and the tyre looks pretty flush. If the same tyres were mounted on a 7.5, I'm concerned the lip would be exposed, so I'm thinking 235 or maybe 245? But this thread says I shouldn't go wider than 225 on 7.5...

195mm = 6.5", 7" and 7.5"
205mm = 6.5", 7" and 7.5"
215mm = 6.5", 7", 7.5" and 8"
225mm = 7", 7.5", and 8"
235mm = 8", 8.5", and 9"
245mm = 8", 8.5", and 9"
255mm = 8.5", 9", and 9.5"
265mm = 8.5", 9", and 9.5"
275mm = 9" and 9.5"
285mm = 9" and 9.5"

But that doesn't seem right; the 225s look pretty damn goldilocks on the stock 7s. Is it the case that anything wide enough to protect your rims is too much tyre?

Somehow this pic makes it look like a bit more tyre... looks a bit flusher than this IRL.

Various series/model tyres from various manufacturers have different shoulders, rim guards, sidewall stiffness, sidewall profile etc.
Its a completely mixed bag.
Currently the answer is PS4’s to fit your rim width.
Be generous if you want more rim protection, go narrower for fitment, handling etc.

Thanks for the confirmation on the rim size. It looks like 9-9.5kg is fairly easy to obtain without having to drop megabucks on a set of rims (ie 3-4k) so I'd be pretty happy with that.

Just one thing though 18 inch GT-B rims are 7.5 inch already. So yes the guide is correct. Tyre shops wouldn't even offer me 235's when I told them the rim size, not legal apparently.

Yep PS4's is what I'm running in 225/45 on the stock, led weight GT-B rims. Fit pretty nicely

My SSRs are around 8kg a piece in 18x8.5 and were 1.6k new. Absolutely no need to spend that much to get lighter wheels from a reputable brand. RPF1s are a common choice too, mine are incredibly light considering the price.

Regardless of legality, you can usually pretty easily fit a 235 on a 7.5". It depends on the actual tyre though, some are much wider than others. I wouldn't ever attempt a typical 200tw as they tend to sit a size larger. However most street tyres will fit perfectly fine. As a side note though, it's not something I would actually do since there's not much purpose.

I wouldn't bother going to tyre shops that flat out say no, they tend to be pretty shite anyway (they tend to be chains).

Just had to go check mine. Could have sworn it was 7.5 but nope.
My bad :oops: that would also explain better why 235's were a no go
