new slotted rotors

how this for silly pricing. the brakes on my 2.0L had been getting bad. they'd started grabbing and since i'd already had them machined Tony (v-sport) said that you couldn't do them a second time. so i call subaripoff and ask how much replacements were. $146 i'm told. i call tony again and ask how much dba's were and he says ~$152....hang on a sec mate, the slotted are only like $6 more  .
not much of a decision to make really :D

Looks good Adam! I like the fact that it was only a few bucks more than factory OEM (which is usually x3 times the cost of anything).

Did you do matching pads as well?

no, tony said that there was ~50+% left on the fronts so i'll do those later.
already feels much improved though.

yeah, they look like 4000's. They aren't 5000's as the rotor and hat are a single casting.

I need to call Tony to get an idea of full and minimum thickness of the Hawks I have on mine.

For that price i thought they would have been a lower series.. 650? or something like that.

If they are 4000's, nice price and upgrade there! What pads are you running?

they are the streets.... but having said that, on the gt i changed the pads, the lines and the fluid(brembo DOT5.1) and it didn't feel like (any where near) as good a brake improvement as the simple rotor swap with oem pads on the 2.0L.
now i'm sure that there's more discussion warranted due to the fact that it's a lighter car but still....

(edited to fix tech error. thanks clarence and teK--)

Are you sure you will be running DOT5.0 fluid? that's a full silicon-based fluid and you have to completely flush out your existing glycol stuff first...

I think he means DOT5.1 which is a super high temperature rated glycol fluid, as DOT5.0 would eat through all the rubber seals in our braking systems... I've used the Motul 5.1 before and it's pretty good but be sure to change it at least yearly as it attracts moisture and deteriorates very easily.

Adam let us know when you've put a few thousand Kms on those rotors and especially if you give them a hard run on the track or through the mountains. I have used the earlier series slotted rotors (before the streets were released) and they ended up with thickness variation after a few hard drives (this happens more often than the rotor itself warping).

I changed to RDA slotted rotors which were much cheaper and didn't have the same problem. The same type of pads were used the whole time (Bendix 4WD). The only downside with the RDAs were that the hats did not come painted or with any coating, so I had to paint them first before fitment to stop them getting that ugly rusted look.

That's why I asked  :P
I'm yet to need DOT5.1 - I find that DOT4 works fine, I don't track mine. Hell, I hardly even drive fast now :P

And FWIW - I have DBA5000 slotted front, DBA Gold slotted rear, with Hawk Ceramic pads. The rotors look similar in construction to the DBA Gold...

Hey Tangcla if we only ever fitted to our cars what we needed to do the job and not what we wanted, then I doubt there would be so many hotted up cars on the road ;)
