I was coming home from the shops and going slow 30-40 kph up our street and saw one of our neighbours goats climbing up on the fence pulling down branches of a tree to eat. I pulled over to check they weren't trying to escape like they have many times and I drove up onto the foot path to have a closer look and forgot about the rain water run off drains that are on that side of the road and I drove into one. They are about 150mm deep and 1.5 meters wide. It has severely bent the front passenger side strut and is leaking fluid. Everything else looks ok. Wheel and tyre are good. Strut tower seems to be good. Control arm seems straight and wheel is sitting in normal position in the arch. I can't believe I forgot the drains are on that side of the road. I do some mowing for her occasionally and I am very aware the drains are there. . Anyone got a spare or a pair of fronts TEIN street coil overs. I don't think the stock ones will fit because of width of wheels.

So despite being retired with time to deal with stuff like this, it's taken me 4 days to feel like investigating what other damage there may be. There is a slight dent in the rim but not serious however there was something that had been caught in the bottom of the coil and with the bend the tyre wall rubbed on this thing , what ever it is, and it has cut into the wall of the tyre during the short 400 meter drive home and it is deep enough to not be same to continue using it.. It's a 215/40/18 RE003 that has only done 4000klm . If anyone in Brisbane area has one of those spare please let me know. I have also started to process of finding someone who can either rebuild or supply parts so I can rebuild the coilover. I wont take it off the car till there is a plan as I can still move it around If I have to.. I find this quite distressing. I always look after our cars and keep them in good condition. This is the type of drain I drove into. The actual drain is just past the 3rd lamppost down the bottom of the hill. Unlike this one it is overgrown and does not stand out.

Has anyone here had 2 of one brand of coil overs on the rear and 2 of a different brand on the front. Eg rear TEIN and front HKS (both Japanese brands. If you think this wont work please explain the reason this will not be a success.. It's not like different brand or tread type tyres front and rear.. It's purely a set up thing surely.. I have an unusable car because I can't find a replacement atm...

I have found a set of HKS and \i am contemplating buying them and using the 2 fronts and selling the rears.. But it's not the best plan. i aam pinning my hopes on friend in Japan where they are made and where their seems to be a few around for sale. I saw the exact one for $120 approx but it was the front right... oh well.. I have been enjoying driving my rex around which has been a lot of fun.. I forgot just how quick and nimble it is... The liberty is hidden under a car cover so I don't have to look at it. I also need a 225/40/18 RE003 as the front left got shredded in the 350meters between the drain and home... Something very sharp was sticking out of the strut and cut a nice neat slash all aroung the tyre in those few ks.. It is an almost new tyre I have a big pile of RE003s in 215/45/17 but they wont fit the LIB.. Anyone want some usable re003s or Pilot Sport 3s or 4s hit me up. I replace them because I use the cars so infrequently that they take too long to ware out and I don't want to be driving on less than 50% tread for the next 5 years... lol..

Had a win at Bridgestone today.. I rang them yesterday to see if they had a good 2nd hand tyre the same type and size, they said bring in the old one as it may be covered by warranty... After measuring the tread dept which was 6.5mm out of a max of 6.7mm they gave me a brand new RE003 fitted and balanced for ...... $34.10 ...... Woohoo....Now all I need is to get the damaged shock fixed or replaced and I can get my GT back on the road.. It's been fun driving my rex around but I miss the auto ...

The one on Sth Pine Rd at Brendale not far from the railway crossing on the left heading North. We have bought a lot of tyres from them over the years and they always are great to deal with and their prices are always good.

Suspension all sorted. The BC coilovers are in and wheel alignment has been done as well. It feels normal, maybe a little firmer than it was so I may soften them a couple of more clicks. The car was lower at the front than it was so I the wheel alignment guys at Bridgestone wound it up about 10 mm so it is level with 64cm from the ground past the center of the wheels to the top of the wheel arches on all 4 corners. The engine compartment looks a little nicer without the green tein top plates. I now have 2 rear BC BR style Racing coilovers spare as well as 1 good and one snapped front pair of tein street series. What I thought was a bend is in fact a split where the damper top screws out of the base it is cracked almost all the way round..

I think got off very lightly considering how much worse it could have been. If I sell the left over bits I should almost come out with around $100 out of pocket plus the $34 for the tyre. The front left had been being a little noisy rumbley for a while so this was a blessing in disguise ..It nice and quiet now..
