18x8 +35 wheels on GT-B wagon, will it fit?

Postby Ferdimage » Thu Jul 11, 2019 1:39 pm

Been a member for a long time, and just purchased my first Liberty GT-B.

I have a Forester GT with Brembo brakes and RPF-1 18x8 +35 rims with 235 45 18 tyres on them.

I really want to bolt up the Brembo's to the Liberty but need the RPF-1's to clear them.
Will the wheels fit my GT-B with stock suspension?

Also what is the stock GT-B wheels specs and tyres?

18 7 +55 iirc... for postfl GT-b, tbSTi enkeis are 7.5.

Tyre size is 225 45 r18 iirc.

Whack these specs into eg willtheyfit.com to compare to yours.

They will fit but you may need to roll the guards up and out a little.

I’m on 18 8.5 +35 with coilovers and rolling, stock alignment: they poke a little, yours might be flush.

Like me you could get away with 235 40 18 with a 9% speedo correction factor.

Because of the +35 poke inner clearance is dead similar to stock rims/struts.

For the 18x7 +55 GT-B rim, the stock tyre is a 215/45-18 ☺

Awsome thanks for the help guys, I'll chuck them on the weekend and see how they clear the guards.

Update: Tried to fit them a few weeks back and they scrubbed at the rears really bad removed it straight away.

Thinking of getting new 18x8 wheels just want to know what is the max offset and tyres size I can get without rolling the guards?

Add the scrub and you’ll have your offset, say +45.
Or put in whiteline kca399 for some extra camber and trim the plastic filler and +35 should work.
Got pics of the +35 set?

The wheels I left on the Forester and sold the car, but all good I'll stick with the stock GT-B wheels and wrap it up with some S007A tyres.
225 45 18 or 235 45 18?

I tried a 225/45-18s on my 18x7.0 CS9s.

They were too wide for the rims so I got a set of 18x7.5 STi rims and tyres were a perfect fit.

The plastic fillers are the first thing to rub but they trim right down :P

When you said that 225 was too wide for 7" , was there negative effects in handling, ride quality?

I found the tyres (Advan AD08R) moved around on the rims a little too much for my liking and car seemed slower to respond to steering inputs. I noticed an improvement with the same tyres on the wider 7.5 inch rim and they certainly looked like a better fit.

I run 225/40/18 on 8.5" rims on my Lib sedan and they seem to be a good fit. They rub on the liner for the first 2-3 minutes when the suspension is cold ( tein coilovers) but then once warm the don't rub again regardless..I have 225/45/17 on 7" rims on my wifes WRX and they are a good fit as well. The 8.5s are a bit wide and the rim protection lip on the tyres is ineffective as the rim is the first thing to touch the gutter, but they look very nice on the car and I wouldn't change them. Just need to be careful with gutters but I live in the country anyway so it never parks on the street anywhere.

Ok thanks for your input, currently on the stock GTB wheels are 225 40 18, Eagle F1 tyres and I do feel the same as you described, plus because of these tyres my speedo is about 8km faster than my actual speed.

Reason why I wanna change tyres , to either Re003 or S007a , which of the 2 tyres have stiffer sidewalls?

We have tried a plethora of performance tyres on our rexs over the years and without a doubt the best tyres we have ever tried are the re003s .. We now have them on 4 of our cars and my son will be going back to them after he wears out his Michelin PS4s..

S001 vs S007a :air_kiss:

Tempting :P

I’d imagine the latter has the stiffer sidewall...
