The RE003s are a great tyre, don't get me wrong, I have them on my Liberty and 3 other of our Subis had them on as well. My WRX has had Michelin PS3s on it for several years and they are a good tyre wet or dry as well and I am very happy with them also but there has been a lot of motoring reviews testing braking distance wet and dry and all say the PS4s are better so we put them on the Sti 18 months ago and they have been just as good as the REs in all conditions. The Sti spent another season down in Thredbo last year and was noticeably better in snow and slushy icy conditions. If you can get RE003s at the right price, get them, the difference is minimal but if the price is identical I'll take the Michelins again..

Gotcha! I’m in the process of re-reading the reviews and ps4 is a real standout for straight-line aquaplaning behaviour :good:

That’s the main potential disaster area if you’re unlucky enough to be caught out on the freeway imho.
All the other great points just back that they’re a top notch performer for the money :)

Stifull sounds like you find the PS4s to be a great tyre.

I am Jindy based and go up and back to Thredbo regularly. Currently running Nokian snow tyres for the winter season, S001's the rest of the time.

After hearing your praises re the PS4s in snow/ice conditions, seriously contemplating them as a year round option.

Also wondering if anyone has tried the Kuhmo Ecsta PA51's? They look like a good compromise with the siping and have excellent reviews overseas as being a brilliant all-season high performance tyre.

PS4 is great!

Overall grip levels in dry are excellent for a very otherwise standard street tyre. I do not believe anything comes close to them.

Definitely the best wet weather tyre I've had hands down. I haven't tried them in ice/snowy conditions however, but I can't imagine any normal tyre fairing amazingly when well out of their temperature range.

There is nothing at the price point I've researched that comes close to the PS4 other than RE003 - which can be a good option if they are significantly cheaper than PS4 (they often are).

The downsides are: sidewall is very soft, which can lead to great ride quality however is not something you want if driving very hard/track use, and they're a relatively soft compound compared to the rest of the class (hence the increased grip).

The PS4 are IMO the best value tyre out there at the moment. 8) If you're unsure as to what you want in a tyre, get these, they will not disappoint.

RE003 are quite loud (on the hatch I recently got). My Lib's Hankook K120 are much quieter and the grip level is easily up there with the RE003. I'll be replacing the RE003 with PS4 hopefully next year.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

PS4, RE003s, Hankooks, and more choices than ever!

Can anyone tell me if a 235/40/18 will be ok on the stock Gen4 GT Spec B wheels?

Thinking if i'm going new tyres i might go wider too!

Talk me out of it or into it!

Cheers

Its more if you can find someone to fit them on a 7” rim...

I’m sure it’s been done tho.

From that I read it's probably not the best idea. Too wide for the rim?

I wouldn't go 235 on the stock wheels, most tyres will be too wide. I've tried 235 on a 7.5 and it wasn't great, didn't handle well either.

Cheers for that, was my thoughts too.

Will refrain from going that wide on the stock rims!

Currently got 225s on mine, they seem alright.

Only had the car since Friday, though

Thought I'd chime in on this one with my opinion.

I've had RE003's on my '95 Mazda hatchback, and while I loved the grip they give, damn they wore out fast.
I previously ran Yokohama C.Drive's on the same car, while they didn't have quite as much grip, they lasted at least 40,000 kms, where as the RE003's I was lucky to get 25,000 out of each set. They're a great tyre, just don't expect them to last very long.

PS4's overall I think are much better in this regard and may give a slight amount away relatively with dry grip, but overall I have been very happy with them. If RE003's come up at the right price I may consider them next time, but they would have to be cheaper just for the amount of time the will last. I'm sure I would wear them out much faster on the Liberty than my old Mazda.
