Hey all,

Have a chance to pickup a used set of Pedders Extreme XA coilovers with 2000kms on them. I drive an 07 Liberty GT Spec B. Looking for a slightly lower ride height, nothing crazy, and still good for daily driver. Specifically looking for ride comfort and cornering stability. Will look to pair these with whiteline sways in the near future.

What are your thoughts?

Used Pedders(2000kms) for 1k or brand new of something else or a set of springs on the stock bilstein struts?

Stock suspension has 92,000kms on it.

You’d do better with MCA or Shockworks, both are digressively damped, which relegates the use of uprated swaybars to final tuning of handling for eg track use.
Ask Owen at Revzone, he ran the Pedder’s before developing SW with the locally based manufacturer.

Just wondering if dropping 2k on coilovers is a bit much. The car is more for errands and the weekend trips.

I know putting on spring will just fast track the degradation of the stock bilstein struts.

You’ll appreciate a good setup for weekend trips...
Especially when you hit B roads or gravel.

If you must save $$$ & not over invest, hang in for either a partout, or do the research and go slight lowering springs, lca’s & etc. I’d be tempted by a set of PROVA springs via http://www.jessestreeter.com

It is possible for your stock struts to go the distance and remain in spec.
But plenty lose the plot, either knocking or worn strut tops or wallowy in corners and harsh over bumps including bottoming out.
I’ve had my SW for a few years and very much considering asking Brett about getting the new valve code implemented during their first service.
They’re an investment in fine driving. DR L

I would really have to consider the cheaper springs route I think. Will need to do more research. The PROVA springs look like a good option but might be a hassle to get my hands on. Any others that are similar you'd recommend? STI pinks i hear are similar in that there is little to no drop. Guess I'd want something that has a slight drop.

Mate, I've tried quire a few setups over the years and by far the best have been the Shockworks. Very compliant, best handling and most suitable for a daily. All other setups have been way too harsh. Save the extra coin and get the Shockworks.

Bp/bl platform is somewhat travel limited as stock, meaning significant lowering will drastically affect compliance.
A finger gap vertically is about right, and is around where you’d want to be on any touring/allrounder setup.
Servicing is a consideration, so check if the damper units are locally serviceable.
Cheaper offerings are usually non serviceable, requiring individual damper replacement if available via the distributor...

Coming from the US WRX community originally, Teins didnt have a good name in terms of coilovers. So I'm a bit biased against them. I think it comes down to a matter of longevity. Do it right the first time. So I'll probably stay on the stock bilsteins amd save up money for the shockworks for when stock needs to be replaced. Car is 10+ years old now and just at 92k kms so we will see how much further is can go?

Any consistent number of kms you've heard of the bilsteins starting to break down?

For 1k, I'd get them. If you run into issues, as least they can be serviced/replaced locally.

I took a gamble with Pedders springs and I'm more than happy with the outcome. Barely any change in ride quality, but the car feels much firmer around corners with less body roll.

What's the average rebuild cost?

They’re not, afaik.
More or less a BC V1 clone.
Dampers are around $200 ea from JustJap, or call Pedders.
But best avoid really...
