Freshen up my suspension - Koni, Kings and SuperPro?

Postby Wheaties » Sat May 21, 2016 12:13 pm

I've enjoyed my 2005 Liberty GT Wagon for a couple of months now - I replaced the McIntosh head unit and stock amp and replaced a couple of trim pieces. It's now time to address the suspension.

Driving style and frequency?
The Liberty was meant to be taken on a few long country drives but I enjoy it so much, I'm driving it to work (about 15km away in city traffic) 3 days a week! I want a suspension setup that isn't bone jarring but keeps the handling, grip and steering tight for the weekend blasts.

What needs replacing now?
The car has done about 220,000km. The rear is a little loose and I hear a noise up front when I hit some bumps so I had a look. The front lower control arm bushings looked shagged. The left rear shock has a small leak. The right one doesn't look any better.

What do I want to do?
Lower the car about 25mm, replace all 4 shocks (the fronts look ok but they are all original parts), get some springs to suit and fit polyurethane bushings for any that are worn.

Parts that I am thinking of?
- Koni Sport shocks http://www.koni.com/Cars/Products/Sport-Tuning/Sport/
- King Springs http://kingsprings.com.au/catalogue/veh ... -2003-2009
- SuperPro bushings http://www.superpro.com.au/find/superpr ... -999500252

Has anyone had any experience with the above setup / parts on their 4GEN Liberty? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Wheaties.

Afaik most Shockworks coilover users are thoroughly delighted. ;)
It's a world class solution that's not much more of an investment than new struts and springs.
If you're after a do it once, done right kinda person...

Thanks for the input. I'll definitely order the SuperPro bushings this week then. I was after some more recent input on anyone running the Koni / King combination, particularly on wagons. I'll keep researching! :D

Well the newest post in the first link in the site search link I posted is from 22/5/16.

Is that new enough for you? You could post there too, just an idea.

If you're in Melb I can demo my Shockworks on some really nasty huge cobbled speed bumps at 40kph.
No strut/spring combo can do that afaik :)

Believe me, I'm considering them too. I posted here to see whether the Kings / Koni setup (particularly with the parts I linked to) was worth doing but Shockworks is definitely on the list of options.

BTW - I followed the Shockworks link on your sig and called the mobile number on the website today.

Cheers.
