Hi all,

The post facelift specB lib decided to snap the drivers shock at the strut bolt head so i'm up for newy's. Wondering what people's experience has been for replacements? I do like the ride of the stock bilsteins.. most of the time! As we've got it all apart anyways, maybe a hair lower (ie pinks, but which ones) might be the go too?? Would appreciate suggestions and advice. Too many options around and gets confusing to decipher the numbers and differences and now i see there are different hats too depending on what goes with what.

P.S. not after track setups! Comfy but sporty....yes i dream

Shockworks & MCA would be a great option.
Works for street with damping on soft, better bump handling than stock any day.

How did the part break? One of the 3 strut top mount bolts? Or the actual top of the shock shaft?

As for pinks prefl might be a bit lower than post, there's specific wagon & sedan versions, butt spacers can be used to adjust rear height regardless, as they all get sag with time...

The Shockworks stuff seems to have great reviews and very reasonably priced. Adjustable coilovers aren't my thing though despite all the advantages. If the bilstein didn't snap, a revalve was on the cards but naturally cars have ways of changing the best laid plans.

The actual top of the shock snapped. Just under the nut. These were original 110k km never touched. The wife does drive the car on weekends. Guess when it all goes wrong. She told me there was a funny clunk noise whilst driving. For her to notice something, it had to be serious.

Thanks for the links. Trying to work out usdm or local or 2.0 or h6 wagon etc. I've noticed some fitting wagon springs to rear to keep the level.

IIRC Koni do inserts for SpecB (check the website to confirm).
I have fitted Koni to most of my previous cars, including a Torana, and they have always been excellent.
Im even tempted to replace my Bilstiens with them.

Koni are awesome. Had a look around but can only find for the kyb version.
Can get the bilstein repaired but 2 new from subaru are not much dearer than the repair and reco on both existing ones.
Looks like will bite the bullet and do new ones, hats and some pink springs. Hopefully won't have to worry for another 100k

I had exactly the same thing happen on my car. It was on the passenger side though. Made an awful racket getting it home at 5km/h.
I replaced mine with the shockworks and they have been awesome.
