Hard braking locking up 07 liberty GT

Hi All,
Just realised that my 07 liberty gt manual keeps locking the front brakes under hard braking. No abs lights are on. Seems a bit concerning.
Even from 40km/h if hit the brakes hard it will lock up the front wheels. Not sure what is going on. has anyone encountered similar symptoms?

Cheers,

Vic

Intriguing.
What tyres are you using?
How is your brake fluid looking?

Took it to the garage to have a look.
I had fitted stoptech pads a year ago. Garage said they were glazing the discs. Also realised that every time i washed the car the brakes would stick to the disc the next day even if i took it for a drive after washing it to get rid of any water. Never happened with original pads. So changed to some bendix ones. will see to how it goes. Still think abs kicks in too early. Has to be tyres.

Taking about tyres, they have heaps of tread on them but what i didn't realise is the surface of them have started getting minor cracks, Garage pointed out they are 6 years old. I will look at changing them soon.
They are Pirelli P Zero's 215/45/18.

Brake fluid is fine. Also all lines checked for leaks. all OK

The factory ABS system is calibrated to the OE tyre grip level and OE brake pad/disc combination. Any changes to them will effect the way your ABS activates..

A few members here are using stoptech pads. Search and send them a PM for their findings.

I would think that regardless of tyre grip and braking efficiency, the system would not allow a wheel to lock. After all, all the system is really looking at is a comparison between the rotation of the 4 wheels.

Does the ABS light come on when you turn on the ignition?

I think Victors heading is misleading. Victor's 2nd post advises he thinks that the ABS kicks in too early under hard braking. ABS kicking in too early can be related to brake pad/tyre. Victor, are your brakes locking up i.e no ABS and tyres locking up or are you referring to ABS activation ?

Reading the second post again makes a whole lot more sense.

Hey guys just to clarify, locks up initially then the abs kicks in. Feels like abs kicks in too soon. Will be changing tyres very soon.

Just a quick update. I just fitted a set of RE003's to the car:) No more lock up with slamming the brakes. And wow the grip in the tyres through the corners. Best the car has ever felt.

Cheers,

Victor

Why are you slamming the brakes?
I've had my car for four years and can remember activating abs in necessary braking in maybe two or three instances during that period. :)

Hi Benny,
The first time i realised it was locking up was in an emergency situation where i just stopped mm from the car in front of me. Thought it was not normal. So i tried it the next day and it was definitely not right with the older tires (kept locking up). All fixed now with new tyres:) no more slamming brakes:).

Cheers,

Victor
