Brake comparisons : By the numbers. (brembo vs GT/H6 vs WRX)

Postby HardwareBoB » Tue Jan 12, 2016 1:07 pm

There's been a lot of discussion both here and on facebook about braking force etc, Here's the actual math on the torque of these systems.

Note that this is simply about actual torque application - the bigger the rotor, the more heat can be dissapated. Also not that this is not related to pads - stock pads on brembos won't be able to match performance pads on LGT brakes and so on.

* LGT/H6 vs brembos Front - brembos have 4.11% more -
* LGT/H6 vs brembos rears - brembos have 5.85% *LESS* (Yes, this surprised me as well)

* LGT/H6 vs WRX 4 pots - LGT front brakes have 5.76% more
* LGT/H6 vs WRX 4 pots - LGT rears have 10.38% more.

I didn't have data on the single pot NA, but safe to say it's well below all of those.

In terms of rotor size it's simply brembo > LGT > WRX

This means that the best performing brake setup (in terms of torque) is infact brembo fronts and LGT rears.

Note also that this comparison does not include a variable for how 'baller' the brakes look.

In interest of integrity, what's your source/how did you come to these conclusions?

Did you simply look at the pad surface area?

pretty interested to see if anyone has any quanitive comparisons between stock pads on a h6 and say bendix ultimate performance pads. Ive found stock replacment equivalent pads that previous owner had put on feel 'soupy' i guess. (almost new pads, and braking response feels quite sloppy so looking for more grip).

The very first thing I did to my gt was put intima sr pads and t2 rotors on it, because I couldn't stand the soupy brakes standard.

I just fitted Intima SS F & R with DBA T3 up front and T2 at the rear. Awesome improvement. Originally had some mystery pad setup from MRT which worked a treat but dusty as so had to get them outta there

Piston area and size of rotor - this is about torque applied.

Opposed pistons v`s sliding (floating) callipers. Bigger and better heat dissipation. Less driver effort.
Well they must be just blingbos :roll:

I clearly stated the terms of the comparison :P (plus I bought a set of brembos, so either I'm a savvy modifier or someone who likes bling.. or maybe a bit of both :)

Just to bump the thread!
ANYONE who thinks the Brembo brakes are just "bling" when set up correctly, IS A FUCKEN WANKER!. As stated by me and many professional people I race with. :shock:
