Are "facing" your brake rotors a good idea?

Just curious what the general consensus is no getting your brake rotors faced when they're not perfectly flat? Or is it worth the money just to buy new ones or have the machine resurface them?
Cheers!

I had it done when I first got mine, truckloads cheaper than new ones as long as they aren't out by too much or you'll end up shaving off too much material and will need new ones anyway.
