Suspension and break upgrade advise

Postby SIMO888 » Thu Sep 24, 2015 10:58 am

Morning all I was just after some advise on braking and suspension upgrade on my 07/08 liberty sedan

Thing is I'm on the road all day as a massage therapist and want to have a great suspension and breaking setup with out going over the top

so what I'm after is breaks, pads, n maybe for a touch of bling calliper's.... with this I am willing to spend around $1000 to $1500 inc. install

In the way of suspension I am very open to ideas and advise as well.... with this I have no idea how much to spend

Set of GT/3.0 calipers, pick them up second hand from someone on the forum.
Get only Paul from Street to Track, and get some T2 rotors all round with Intima SS pads - will be well within your budget and give you great performing brakes. Chuck in a set of braided lines at the same for for a bit of extra feedback.

Before they go in the car, paint them up in your favourite colour for more bling!

I picked up a set of front callipers off a GT from wreckers for $80. Just need to refurbish it, renewing the duct caps and new paint. total cost, $150-180.

+1 for a set of GTB/30RB 316mm brakes.

They work well.

Yes and you'll need the matching discs.
RDA, DRB or Japanese discs...
Consider SS braided lines as well.
Suspension: Shockworks of course.
If you're keen to invest in at least one big performance upgrade for your lib, that's the one I'd recommend as making the most sense, along with a brake and tyre upgrade. And LCA bushes, HD rsb mounts, maybe an RCA kit. Got that tune yet?

It's all been covered here a million times, look at members who enjoy and have modified a similar model to yours and read what they did to get the most out of it. I'm thnking of Hyrax in particular. He's done it all including ergonomics. He's happy with his brembos and bc coilovers and upgrade sways etc.

What exactly is your model? An auto 2.5i?

And you should be advised that you are looking for advice, but that's how you can get down to tin tacks with all of your questions.

And they're known as brakes btw.

Once you get stuck into your research you may want to explore the differences between digressive (Shockworks etc) and progressive (bc, tein etc) suspension damping.

Different strategies but digressive IMHO is the way to go for the suspension travel limited liberty BP/BL platform.
The ride is firmer but far more capable on challenging roads IME.

The harder you push it, the firmer it gets.
It's like the difference between massaging someone with a pillow (progressive) and with hands (digressive).
On a really nasty road, it's possible to comfortably belly out the, eg scrape the lowest point with compression whist retaining composure and control.
On progressive shocks you couldn't comfortably travel at that speed.
