Looking to slap on some brembo's on my gtb gen4.
I've bin doing some search but haven't found any great deals, ichiban $1200 brand new front wrx sti brembo's is about the average price. Any help much appreciated

Second hand from wreckers or Japan is the cheapest way. Or watch the for sale sections of this and other subaru forums.

Having said that, fronts go for an average $800-1000 even secondhand here.

Have you got wheels that clear the brembos?

A full set second hand in good condition will be about $1200-1500. Brand new set would be around $2000 (calipers only)

My plan is to get brembo's n wheels, so no not yet.

A full set will do me no good I gather as the rears don't fit?

I'll have a look into some wreckers over here n Japan as I'm really trying to save money where I can n it all adds up.

Rears fit with adaptors.

I got my full set of Brembo's plus discs (used only temporarily until I got some DBA 4000's) from a New Zealand wrecker for AUD$1000 shipped. Bargain of the century at the time.

Total shopping list for me was:

• Brembo's front and rear
• STi front and rear discs (DBA 4000)
• Modified handbrake shoes to fit the rear STi discs
• Kartboy adapters to fit the rear calipers
• New rims to clear the Brembo's
• New tyres to suit the new rims
• New brake pads front and rear
• STi master brake cylinder (this is optional)
• STi brake booster (optional)
• Braided brake lines (optional)

Total cost was roughly $4K in the end with the only labour paid for being the fitment of the STi Master Brake Cylinder because I didn't have the tools to be able to do it myself.

You probably want to budget $2500+ for a Brembo setup.

Check out STi Heaven on Gumtree, aka "Allan" - he wrecks a lot of STi's. He will ship internationally (at your cost of course).

It's optional, however the STi Master Brake Cylinder bore is 13% larger than the stock MBC. As a result, you pump 13% more brake fluid to the calipers for the same amount of pedal force. The STi Brake Booster is needed because the STi MBC has a different mount to the BB compared to the non-STi MBC. Other than that they are essentially identical I believe.

Without upgrading, you may find that your brake pedal travels deeper than you're used to, since the Brembo calipers hold a lot more brake fluid than the stockers.

Again optional, but also consider a Master Brake Cylinder brace to stop the firewall flexing when you go heavy on the anchors (will result in a firmer pedal).

And optional again, consider braided brake lines. Again, firms up the pedal by stopping the hoses from flexing.

You don't 'need' to.

Pros: It should have even better pedal feel. Do everything at once and only bleed system once etc.
Cons: Extra work.

Without the master cylinder my brakes are already epic. Can't even imagine this could really be improved on.

Instead of stock lines (unless they're stainless steel/teflon lines) - you need to get stainless steel braided/teflon lines (HEL/Stoptech/Goodridge make some). Better pedal feel again, without them kind of a waste having Blingbos IMO.

Oh, it definitely does improve! Another good bang-for-buck mod, even if you don't have Brembo's IMO.

Any chance you'd have a part no. or a way to find the right parts (model no. etc)? IIRC I talked to you about it a year or 2 ago, but other more pressing mods got in the way

Just get the same generation part. For Gen4's, anything from a 2002 to 2007 STi will work. I wouldn't be surprised if other years after that fit without a problem, but don't quote me on that.

For example, i'm using a 2005 STi BB and MBC in my 2008 Lib. Fits and works fine.

Any STi wrecker will do. The BB and MBC usually aren't considered high-value parts in a salvage, so you can usually pick them up for about $100-$150 total.

Ok, so I'm gunna get everything u mentioned, but, is there a difference between the newer black sti stamped calipers n the horrible gold ones? Or enough to warrant the $1000 price difference
