Well, sorry but I'm a little confused. I've read these pages and researched the USA forum on Legacys also.
For My gen4 Liberty sedan, 2006.

I was thinking of 18 x8's, then these came up. I have the opportunity to get some 18" x 8.75" mags at the right price from a relative.

Problem is at 8.75" or 219mm wide, what tyre can I run or will these fit at all without rubbing/ clearance issues.
The offset is negative 35.5mm. Ie ...rim width 245 /2= 122.5. 122.5- 158 (hub mount surface to inner rim) = - 35.5mm
Will the rear need camber change and guards roll? Even with 225 18R . Will they fit on front!
These aftermarket rims came off a 2009 Liberty.

Should I just wait and pickup some WRX 18x8's ?

I'm confused after digesting so much info. Can any knowledgable members help advise me please.

Hmmmm,.. I just found very useful comments on another thread here that says 8.75 " require a lot of work to fit, are not legal either. Do you agree?

As a rough guide, anything larger than an inch in diameter, or wider than 10mm on the tyre or half an inch on the rim than factory in most states is usually considered unroadworthy. The reality is that it just needs to be within the maximum specification of the vehicle since the same chassis has provision for various different tyre and rim sizes for all models of the vehicle.

The Liberty was never made for 8.5" or larger rims. Yes, they can fit, but not without considering other work such as rolling guards, adding camber and putting on narrow tyres that will stretch to tuck in under the guards. I've got 8.5" on my car with 235 rubber and rubbing over harsh yumps and bumps at speed, even with 2 degrees of camber on the front, is a reality whether you like it or not, especially if you lower it.

If you want to avoid rubbing, consider nothing wider than 8".

As for rubber, 245 on an 8.5" rim is ever-so-slightly wider than the rim (235 is a straight edge). 245 on an 8" rim will provide a small amount of "muffining" similar to factory wheels and tyres which will protect the rim from gutter rash to a small degree.

Having recently got some 8.5" +47 rims i can say going for an 8" is the way to go. Different offsets work alot better too.Its not a huge amount of work but 8.5" is definately not a bolt on and be done affair, especially if you want to go a bit lower in the future. Only reason I went with 8.5" was the wheels i wanted were only available in 7.5" or 8.5" and the 7.5" doesn't clear Brembo's.
